    Graduation Speaker

I was at the graduation yesterday and I thought Secretary Buttigieg's virtual speaking event and his message was very good. Senator Mark Kelly was in person and he was amazing!

Advice/Information Request - Color Test Alternatives

I know there are others more versed on this than I, but I believe that medical requirements to USMMA is not based on CFR regulatuons, but on US Navy standards for officer commissioning programs as they will serve as US Navy Reserve officers after graduation if they do not go Active Duty.

    2021 Billed Costs Announced

I have no personal experience, but I have seen previous posts discussing this topic. The law does provide a special condition for Service Academy students and the ten percent tax on payments from a Qualified Tuition Program or Coverdell Education Savings Account that are not used for...

If there is an Admin who can change the Thread Topic to make it clear that I am asking about "When will the Billed Costs be Announced".

    2021 Billed Costs Announced

I am just curious about how the 2021 Billed Costs will be announced. Will it be by letter or email? Indoc is getting close and I understand that cost must be payed before arrival. Any estimate when the bill will arrive? Thanks!

    Running Shoes - Brand/Style

@azmilmon, Thank you for the information on the shoes. Maybe it is me, but there is no way I would call any of those shoes "predominantly white"! If I had known we were looking for "predominantly gray" shoes, there never would have been a question! :)

    Running Shoes - Brand/Style

Until you go looking for predominantly white running shoes, you don't realize how hard they are to find these days! Looking for input from Class of 2021 or current USMMA Midshipmen. What brand and style running shoes are you using that are considered acceptable in color and style? Thanks in...

    General Questions for 2021

My opinion is to have your plebe only show up with what is needed at the time it needed. Everything else can be obtained later at the appropriate time. I don't have any experience with USMMA Indoc, but I have experience with other Indoc type programs...and most of the time "Less is More"

    General Questions for 2021

I am not saying there are negative reactions from others. I am saying that after wearing a uniform basically 24 x 7 that it is fully understandable why Jmoney457 says that "Liberty in uniform kind of sucks". The reaction from parents then say "no it does not...its great". Two points of...

    USMMA to Active Duty Navy

No clear cut answer, but I do not think Restricted versus Unrestricted (excluding special duty fields) have different standards. I could be wrong though... This is from the Manual of the Medical Department U.S Navy dated 3 Feb 2017. There are other items listed, but I believe visual acuity...

After Graduating Can Son Join Any Military and Be an Officer

At the April Open House, Admiral Helis mentioned that about 75% of incoming classes indicate they want an Active Duty Commission with one of the services. The remaining 25% indicate they want to sail on their license. After 4 years, that percentage reverses. The education and experiences can...

    USMMA to Active Duty Navy

I don't see where anybody answered your questions...and unfortunately I do not have an answer either. The only thing I can add is that if your daughter received a waiver by USMMA, then she meets the medical standards for the Navy Reserves Strategic Sealift Officer Program. "Plebe Candidates...

Class of 2021 USMMA Appointment Thread

Congratulations! I suspect there will be additional appointments this week. Monday was the acceptance cutoff date for the initial appointments offered. Admissions now has the count of who accepted and who did not from the initial offers and will now be working to fill the incoming 2021 class.

    Chances????

Always a hard question to answer. If you think there are "high chances" of denial at USNA...you may not be competitive at USMMA. Most USMMA appointees are competitive at the other Service Academies also. Not all get appointments, but they are competitive. A large number have 4 year ROTC...

Class of 2021 USMMA Appointment Thread

There really is no need to FedEx the form. They are fine with using the envelope provided and using regular mail. Fax (or email a scanned copy) and then mail the original. The fax or email is what alerts them of the acceptance.

    General Questions for 2021

The information you are seeking is on the USMMA website. It is not Cross Commissioning...it will be your commissioning service upon graduation. If you look at some of the graduations on You Tube you will see various uniforms from each service being worn. USMMA receives Active Duty slots each...

Best Value Colleges - #1 United States Merchant Marine Academy

I understand that viewpoint and there may be some in government that share that same view. However others look at USMMA as "insurance"...for lack of a better description. The USMMA student may graduate into a civilian career...but there is an 8 year reserve commitment. This is not much...
