Changing Drivers license, car plates/ registration/ insurance in each PCS/ TDY move, or not? Thoughts?

My son was born in Tennessee (no state income tax) but changed his residency to Florida (also no state income tax) when he went to Pensacola. He's in California now but his vehicles still have Florida tags and they have Florida licenses. Don't most states that require you to get their license...

    Separation from Naval Academy

Is the PRT at the USNA different than the PRT for active duty enlisted? Is it possible he was deemed not physically fit?

    Navy promotion idea

Yes, but it was a wonderful life back then.

    Navy promotion idea

While I would love to see my son get promoted earlier, I tend to agree with you.

    Navy promotion idea

Since my son promoted to LTJG in January, I would like them include promotion from O2-O3 as well.

    VTCC AMA

My DS and DDIL both graduated from the VTCC and VT in 2021. DDIL was VPI and DS was NROTC. They loved VT and Blacksburg. They made friends there that they will have for the rest of their lives. They've even traveled across several states to be in each others weddings.

    Naval Postgraduate School Opportunity

He starts at NPS in July but he won't be eligible to pin O-2 until January so it doesn't sound like he would be able to complete JPME. :(

    Naval Postgraduate School Opportunity

I have no idea what the requirements are to be eligible for JPME but one of the selling points his detailer mentioned was knocking out his masters and JPME 1 early.

    Naval Postgraduate School Opportunity

His undergrad is Construction Engineering and Management (STEM). And, although he may never need it, he took the FE (Civil Engineering focus) and passed it. The program they are pushing him toward is Cyber Systems and Operation which is an 8 quarter program so it will take 2 years. I assume...

    Naval Postgraduate School Opportunity

Since he and his wife just celebrated their first anniversary with their 14ish week old golden retriever puppy, they have two of the three D's covered. Hopefully, they never get the third one. LOL!

    Naval Postgraduate School Opportunity

Son commissioned a year ago and, after getting DQ'd for aviation, got redesigned CW, is getting ready to report for school in March and will be reporting to Georgia once he finishes. He just got an email from his detailer asking if he is interested in going to NPS and then going to CW school...

All Admissions Decisions are RECEIVED! THANK YOU for all your help!

I believe the new building behind Lane Hall is the new Military Science Building. I think the new dorm is going next to Lane Hall behind Pearson Hall. I could be wrong. I haven't been back since my son commissioned a year ago today.

How is VMI in terms of academics

My non-ROTC son went to VMI on an unofficial visit for football. We were very impressed with the academic portion of the visit, small class sizes with lots of opportunity for one on one interactions between students and professors. Since he was being looked at as a preferred walk-on, the out...

Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets - A few questions

My son graduated from the VTCC in May and will graduate from VT and commission in the Navy in two weeks. While I wouldn't say he loved every moment of being in the Corps, I think he would say that overall it was a great experience. His fiancé also graduated from the Corps of Cadets (VPI...

Does it look bad if you apply to only ROTC and not the academies as well?

I do not think it matters at all.. My son did not apply to any of the service academies and got an NROTC scholarship.
