Virtual AIM is a huge success for my daughter!

My son had an overall positive experience too - even though the sessions were at 3 am and 6 am here in Asia!

    Virtual AIM

How did you receive the specifics about connecting virtually? Email? My son is in week 2.

    AIM Acceptance?

My son who was initially waitlisted for AIM got an email yesterday saying he is now selected. He was instructed to choose a date and register/pay by June 20. Since we are a military family stationed in Asia, we were especially glad to see that one of the weeks has adjusted times to accommodate...

    Any local signs for AIM?

No knowledge on anything at USCGA or in Connecticut. However, my active duty AF spouse was scheduled to attend training in Alabama in late June. It’s a high priority class that is mandatory for certain positions. We just found out yesterday that it will be virtual instruction only. Just another...

    AIM Acceptance?

My son was waitlisted too, was also wondering if it’s a polite decline. We are PCSing from Korea to Japan this summer - between that and COVID quarantine issues coming back to Asia, it would have been difficult to work out his attendance anyway. But, I really wanted him to be able to see if it’s...

    AIM Acceptance Question

You guys are way more optimistic about summer than me. We are a military family stationed overseas experiencing a stop movement order that is reported to be extended soon. It’s currently in effect until mid-May, wouldn’t be surprised to see it last through June or longer. Can’t imagine bringing...

    AIM Acceptance Question

Any idea if they will announce acceptances even though the program will likely be canceled?

Air Force ROTC Scholarships / Admissions - AMA

If Chemical Engineering is not on the list of desired technical majors, does that mean a student can’t get an AFROTC scholarship with that declared major? I saw this specific situation mentioned a few posts ago but didn’t see you directly address the ChemE issue. Thanks!

    Congressional nominations at USCGA

Are you a white male? I have no CG experience, but have found that those in the majority don’t always pick up on bias and discrimination that others must overcome. I’m not judging your experience, just encouraging you to acknowledge that you might not be aware of some obstacles that other groups face.

    Congressional nominations at USCGA

Thanks for your thoughts on the structural differences with the CGA. It definitely seems like the population is already diverse without congressional involvement, maybe concerns from congress could be resolved with more education about how candidates are chosen. I could also see a scenario where...

    Congressional nominations at USCGA

So it’s ok for officers in non-law enforcement services to be nominated but not CG? Plenty of opportunities for people of bad character in all services to take advantage of the system for their benefit. Can you describe more about why the CG mission is so different? This is an honest question as...

10 Things About Being a Girl and a Freshman at USAFA

I didn’t enjoy the tone of some of the advice either and I’m an old grad but it’s just my perspective with more distance, nothing to be offended by. Be yourself, it’s thats a “girly girl” or “butch” or whatever words you want to use, no matter what. It’s not your job to conform to others...

    Reevaluated or prep route

If you mean AA as affirmative action, then I suggest you rethink your attitude. If not, sorry sorry for the misunderstanding.

    Vacation?

Daniel, you didn't do anything wrong. Your post was polite and your question was reasonable. If an upperclassman was trolling on here for dirt on incoming basics then they should be embarrassed. And even if they were, what could they possible give you a hard time about? You are more likely to...

    Summer STEM?

Has anyone been accepted or declined recently to summer STEM? My son is waiting to hear and we have overseas orders reporting right around the same time, so I’m anxious to firm up our schedule. I’m assuming he’s a “no” due to not being a target demographic (individually and geographically). Thanks!

    Anxiety medication waiver?

Agree about trying but it’s also important to be realistic and not waste time and energy. She feels she can manage her anxiety just fine and should be given a chance but can’t step back and see that the military isn’t prepared to take a risk when they have others fully medically qualified.

    Anxiety medication waiver?

I guess I’m wondering how competitive those campus based scholarships are? I believe she will meet all the criteria.

    Anxiety medication waiver?

I have a niece who is interested in the military. She attempted to enlist but had taken anxiety meds and has a history of ADHD and was told to wait 2 years after taking meds and try again. In the meantime, she started college, left, worked to save money and just started at a different college...

    RISE relevancy

Why would you not participle in something that provides additional support in a new and challenging environment? I attended a different service academy 20+ years ago, if there had been a program for 17 year old, low income girls who had never been away from home more than overnight, you can bet...
