Any Scholarship Recipients Rethinking This Year?

Don't give up a scholarship. if you give up a scholarship you may not get another one next year. Just go forward. It's only 4 years or less depending on status. It all sucks, but the military will make ROTC happen one way or another. My son's school is 100% online they will not be able to be on...

    Chance me Army ROTC Scholarship?

At least look good for a 3 year scholarship, but I'll echo work on your SAT, but you also need to add to your leadership package. My guess is Boys State is not happening this year or at least will be postponed but look at that or a replacement for that.

    AROTC Gear

I'd just get a pair of lightweight boots. The ones they issued were too heavy when I was in. The best money spent was on boots. A good pair of Danner boots will be over $150 dollars to $350 or so. You don't need the most expensive yet.

    VMI lifestyle?

The first 6-9 months at VMI would be the hardest until you are done with the rat line.

What can I expect from the army ROTC basic course?

I would suggest you not join ROTC and you join an outdoors club or a shooting club if you want to just get some basics. Also, there's a lot of military history courses you can take from the political science or history department. The ROTC wants people to stick around and not be a distraction to...

    Room and Board

Just a few thoughts on room and board from Army side. My DS won a 3 year and some schools do offer a credit for housing. Also, every school that we have talked to has allowed him to take his merit scholarship and apply it to years 2-4 and use it to pay for room and board. We have confirmed this...

So you just won an AROTC Scholarship- what now.

Maybe someone can answer this one. My DS got the 3 year award. We are trying to decide which school from his list to attend. One of the schools on the list offers free room and board. Does anyone know if that free room and board kicks in for year one (he's a year 3 AD winner) and also if he...

AROTC Scholarship Board - Week of March 23, 2020

DS got the 3 Year Award. Now, he's got to make a decision. He had already written it off (as in he was not going to get it because he was boarded for months) and was about to accept another college, but now this changes everything.

    "Do you own a motorcycle"

Just don't ride a motorcycle. Chances are much greater than you will die from your injuries.

    APFT Sit-ups

..."you may not use your elbows or any part of the arms to lock on to or brace against the legs. Your elbows can go either inside or outside the knees, but may not be used to hold yourself in the up position. If this occurs your performance in the event will be terminated.”

    Running!?!?

Run 800's once a week (4-5 of those at 110-120 percent of one mile pace), run tempo once a week (80+ percent race pace), and run high mileage at very slow rate twice a week. Throw in hills when you can, no more than once a week. That has you running 4 times a week max. Get rest. That's plenty...

    PMS Interview

I looked at the form. Looks like most candidates can get 120 from scholar, athlete, and leader criteria. The max points are 200 so are most candidates seeing 160-200 points as the average here. The first 120 points are not subjective you either meet those criteria or you don't. It's the next 80...

    Need suggestions for ARMY ROTC

Took the ACT once and made the same as the SAT if you compare the scores. I will be re-taking the ACT later in the summer. I thought the ACT was easier but ran out of time. I do believe I can score higher on that.

    Need suggestions for ARMY ROTC

Lots of leadership. As a JR Class Rep for incoming FR, Eagle scout holding leadership positions in the unit. Just getting Eagle means you are a leader because of the project and the roles you have to take on as a Boy Scout like Patrol leader etc, Also held a position at Boys State, etc. I have...

That's just not going to happen, 1100-1200 is what I will end up with on the test.

    Need suggestions for ARMY ROTC

Did not know you could lose the scholarship if you get injured and can't take the APFT. That's scary.

Good to know about that. I think the SAT will go up. Took it in Jun but have not gotten the score back yet and taking the ACT in Aug.

    Need suggestions for ARMY ROTC
