Politically biased ROTC LLAB...was this appropriate?

I commend you on your decision to serve our country and congratulate you on your upcoming graduation and commission. I wish you all the best in your military career. Now I’m not trying to start a political argument, I just want to shed some light for you on why conservatives feel like they’re...

AFROTC Scholarship and Professional Flight - Merit Scholarship options

My son is a first year AFROTC cadet and also an aviation flight science major. His flight fees are built into the tuition for the Professional Flight Lab courses he takes (this a a credited hour lab in which he flys). So his non-AFROTC scholarship monies cover this.

    AFROTC PDT Schedules

Yes, he did ask. If he didn’t already ask his cadre, I wouldn’t be asking this question on this forum. I prefer to let him act like a responsible adult at this point in his life - I’m here for him for support and advice. At this point, the cadre don’t have any scheduling information for the...

    AFROTC PDT Schedules

Is there any way to find out the schedules for some of the AFROTC PDT programs next summer? My DS is a first year AFROTC cadet at Western Michigan Univ. and he recently told me that PDTs are mandatory - 1 for GMCs and 1 for POCs. So he'll be applying for a PDT to do this upcoming summer...

    Advice/Encouragement for Class of 2022

Excellent post. I agree with the earlier comment that it appears you have the makings of a very good officer. I think the general theme of your post can be applied to all officers-in-the-making, not just from the Academy. I’m going to share this with my son who will be starting his freshman year...

The end of the beginning, and thank you.

Congratulations and thank your DS for his service! We are just beginning this adventure as our DS will be joining AFROTC this Fall. Love this forum!

My son Commissioned in the Air Force

Congratulations to your son and to you and your wife for raising such a fine young man! I have really appreciated reading your posts the last few months because I’ve felt that your son has gone through much of what my son will be going through. In the Fall, my son will be attending Western...

    2018 AFROTC HSSP Statistics

My DS was one of the 18% that interviewed and wasn’t offered a scholarship. He was extremely disappointed but still plans to join the AFROTC program at Western Michigan University. He’s starting their aviation program early this summer and plans to graduate in 2022 with a BS in Flight Science...

    AFROTC Scholarship 2018 - Results - January

DS was reboarded. He’s pretty disappointed right now. I reminded him how competitive these are and that there’s still a chance in March, and if not then, an in-college scholarship next year. Also reminded him that the majority of officers who commission through the AFROTC program are NOT on...

    AFROTC Scholarship 2018 - Results - January

I served in the Army many years ago so I definitely appreciate the saying “hurry up and wait”! I think it was easier to deal with back then because I was living in the moment. But now, as a parent, it’s different. You worry about your kids, and for most of their childhood you’re able to...

    AFROTC Scholarship 2018 - Results - January

Nothing here yet either. Does anyone know for sure that the board did, in fact, meet last week? It still says that on DS’s portal.

Eagerly waiting here also for DS.

    AFROTC Updated Application

Same issue for DS. He hasn’t been able to access it for a week because they’ve apparently been updating the website. Now with the shutdown, who knows when it’ll be back up.

    AFROTC Selection Board Timing

What are the chances of getting boarded by the next Board on November 6 if an AFROTC application is completed now - 2 weeks away from the board? So is it possible for an interview to be scheduled, then take place, then be submitted to the board in a 2 week time span? (As a former soldier, I...

    ACTOR to NROTC??

My DS will also be a high school senior and is planning on AFROTC with dreams of being a pilot. He has a similar GPA and SAT (he's retaking in 3 weeks). He's also done a lot of acting in both school productions and our community civic theater. So your son is not alone with that type of...

    AFROTC Tech Majors

A lot of good thoughts to chew on by both Humey and Pima. I think for DS it boils down to the fact that he has a couple of significant goals for his future: flying and the military. If he can do both for a good chunk of his career, he'll be ecstatic. If both don't line up long term(ie, he...

    AFROTC Tech Majors

Pima and CCake, thanks for your responses. I agree with Pima's statement that he should major in what he enjoys doing. And my DS is passionate about flying. He's wanted to be a pilot for a couple of years now, but he really caught the bug when he took his introductory flight when touring...
