Can I get a HD copy of USNA Commencement/Commissioning video?

Other than screen capture/recording of the lower resolution YouTube video of 2023 commencement that’s on-line, does anyone know if there is another source or option? (I apologize that this question is not useful for USNA parents and applicants).

Question on ER visits while at USNA

If, while on the Yard, a mid gets sick and is brought to a local hospital and the mid subsequently is billed for the visit, are they responsible for submitting to Tricare and are they responsible for out of pocket expenses and copayments?

OCONUS travel in Europe over leave block this summer?

Do mids planning vacation in Europe this summer need permission? This will be to a non-NATO (as if this writing) country with a border with Russia.

Shout out to Navy Ultimate- qualified for Nationals

Navy Poseidon Ultimate (frisbee) qualified at regionals in Virginia Beach today for Nationals (D3) in San Diego- first time ever for Navy Ultimate. Unfortunately Nationals coincides with Army-Navy so they probably won’t get to participate but a nice accomplishment for a little-known club sport..

Do most mids get class rings?

Our soon-to-be 2/C DS say he has no interest in getting a class ring - too expensive and he will never wear it because it “sends a bad message to those around him after commissioning”. I get the expense but I don’t get the second part. We probably can help defray some of the cost for a ring...

"I'm so happy I could cry!"

I don't get many texts from my DS but I got this one this morning as ROM begins to loosen up: "Gyms opened today. I'm so happy I could cry!" It's the little things in life that make us happy, I guess. He said 7th wing gym is "the wild west" with a "real prison vibe" - all the pins holding...

What is vacation time like for JO's in Navy and Marines?

Discussing with DS (youngster last night). No LREC for him this year and he is disappointed (is what it is). He wondered if he might eventually get to Europe etc. on a vacation once he is in the Fleet or Corps. What kind of vacation time do junior officers get (if any) and are there certain...

Are reduced credit loads the norm during COVID?

DS is home for the holidays and indicates a number of youngsters he knows have had limited credits this past semester and in the upcoming semester (12 - 14 credits) and can’t take a heavier load. Wondering if this is out of the norm. 12-14 seems really low.

    Is class 2023 portal changed?

DS says he can no longer get into his CIS portal to fill out the sponsor questionnaire. Anybody having this trouble or a work around (he will call admissions tomorrow but I said I would check here, too)

    Interaction with St. Johns' students?

DS just found out that one of his friends in high school will be attending St. Johns in Annapolis. This is really strange - two kids from an inner city public school in the midwest end up across the street from each other half-way across the country. Other than the annual croquet match, do mids...

Is pre-plebe wisdom tooth removal a reportable surgery

(Before responding, Yes, I did do a forum search on wisdom teeth). DS (2023 appointee) was at the dentist last week for 6 month checkup and dentist would like to refer him to a specialist consult to have three wisdom teeth removed. I spoke with the specialist on the phone (ahead of the...

Juggling high school sports and non-sport ECs

My youngest DS is a freshman in HS. He won't be striving for an SA (he is medically disqualified from any military service) and he doesn't play HS sports. But he is on the robotics club team, which is nationally very competitive. The robotics team meets during the entire school year every day...

Impressed by DS's NROTC admissions counselor

I've read on this forum some grumblings about less than stellar communications with ROTC admissions counselors and I just want to post an anecdote with DS that tells a different story. DS had been dragging his heels a bit on finishing his NROTC application prior to the first board this year...

    AP Physics online?

Because of a scheduling conflict at DS's school, he cannot take Physics, as planned. Does anyone know if there is an on-line AP Physics option (homeschoolers perhaps?). How do you deal with the lab portions? I know absolutely nothing about on-line courses. Are they accepted by colleges (and...

How much do SAs and ROTC programs coordinate?

DS was surprised to receive a call last night from a local Marine Captain, noting that DS is applying to USNA and asking if he would be interest in applying for NROTC-MO as a plan B. (DS is in-process with his NROTC (non-MO) application but has not submitted anything yet). Got us to wondering...

    Super score clarification

I thought we had this figured out but in a search of the forums I am not so sure. Does USNA super score using both SAT and ACT. More specifically, would USNA create a super score using highest Math ACT and highest English SAT? If they do, do they convert everything to SAT or ACT equivalents...

Need assistance on a potentially difficult interview question

DS learned yesterday from someone associated with our MOC to prepare to be ready to answer the following question in a MOC interview this fall: "Should Muslim women be permitted to wear the hijab if they are appointed to USNA?" DS did some research last night and found that US Army is...

    CFA rest time question

We're a little confused on the rest time and individual event duration times for each element of the CFA. As the USNA web site table indicates, the B-Ball throw begins at time 0:00 and there are 2:00 minutes to complete three attempts. This is followed by a 3:00 minute rest before pull-ups...
