    Class of 2022 HT/WT Standards

Recommend you familiarize yourself with AR 600-9. If USMA has different standards someone please pipe up. By Army standards you would have to be taped at that weight. They measure neck and waist and use a formula to calculate body fat percentage. You're authorized 20% if age 17-20. If you're...

    Beast Barracks

The mental stuff is the most important. You can make it through anything physically, and those who aren't in great shape yet will get there. The stuff in your head can hit a lot harder, especially for those in an unfamiliar environment for the first time. I haven't been through Beast yet, but...

    ROTC to USMA

Can't speak to that either, I have limited experience with ROTC. However the additional "military" experience should do you well as long as you don't get a big head because of it, and remember that USMA will be quite different in many ways. As an enlisted candidate, all this applies to those...

    Cadet Emails

It will only get tricky when there is more than one person with the same name, then there will usually be a number right after the last name. Leads to some fun miscommunication.

    Active duty vs civilian college.

Not sure. I know you need one for the Regular Army nomination. I imagine not having one wouldn't look great though. It's a shame ROTC hasn't pursued a waiver, have you spoken to them? Enlisting is a perfectly honorable way to serve, but it does sound like you're on the road to becoming an...

    Active duty vs civilian college.

As an enlisted Soldier who recently received an appointment, I'll throw in my .02. I would strongly recommend against enlisting solely for the purposes of applying to USMA. You will probably have a bad time. Enlist if you're willing to spend 3-4 years as a Soldier in the Army. They accept very...

    Optional insurance

Yes, can be changed pretty much whenever. You actually have to verify your data in the Army every year to make sure you don't want to change anything.

    SAT score

If you want to get an idea how you stack up against others, search for the class profiles. 2021 is the latest available and it states the percentages of admitted candidates who fall into certain score ranges, etc.

USMA Class of 2022 Appointment Thread

Thank you! Wish I could give you some insight into congressional nominations and all that, but I didn't go through that process. Best of luck, there's not enough of us Connecticut folks in the military.

Where Do I find Tattoo and body fat forms?

Can't say for sure, but in the Army you only have to be "taped" if you weigh more than a number which is determined by your height and gender. This typically applies to those who are rather muscular, as well as the chubby folks of course. I assume it's the same thing here. I never have to get...

    Rejection

I agree, my performance in high school was dismal and I'm hoping a 3.9 GPA across 25 college credits will help make up for it. If you've been in for at least a year you can use TA, it's pretty easy once you figure it out. Taking one or two online classes per semester at your local community...

    Rejection

I know that Soldiers are automatically considered for the prep school if not admitted, not sure if that's still a thing after a TWE. Your best bet is probably to reach out to CPT Mason. He's been extremely helpful for me. Good luck and keep us posted! I'm still nervously awaiting word on my...

    3Q

All a 3Q letter means is that you're fully qualified and still in the running. However, not everyone who is qualified gets one, for whatever reason. Whims of the RCs, I suppose.

Army allowing beards and more for off duty soldiers now

On this broader topic, consider SMA Chandler compared to SMA Dailey. SMA Dailey is enormously popular among the troops for relaxing certain tattoo and uniform requirements, among many other things. Even something as simple as letting Soldiers wear headphones in the gym when in uniform can make...

Infantry vs. Aviation Officer (National Guard)

Jcleppe, thanks for the correction. I guess I was thinking more along the lines of a fighter squadron, where all of the pilots are officers. I've been on an Air Force base for way too long...

    Portal Down

I happen to follow both the Admissions and the Soldier Admissions pages. I have seen nothing of the sort. As a matter of fact, you really can't tell that anything is happening from looking at the facebook pages thus far.

Infantry vs. Aviation Officer (National Guard)

Probably not what you want to hear, but you have a long time before you have to make this sort of decision. If you even get your choice of branch, that is. My .02, consider active duty if you really want to be hands on. Also, aviation isn't my field. But I would question if an aviation 2LT...

Army allowing beards and more for off duty soldiers now

Most units allow troops to skip shaving on leave, pass, etc. Which includes non-duty weekends. Personally, I rarely shave on the weekends unless I have to. Why bother? It's a pain in the ass, and it's nice to loosen up a little on your off days. The argument that not shaving for a couple days...
