My DS was DQd by DODMERB last year (had applied USAFA who did not ask for a waiver, received AFROTC scholarship who did ask for waiver- waiver denied) for hx chondromalacia patella and history or patello-femoral syndrome (never a big deal pain-wise we were just trying to be good parents and had...

    any advice?, DQ last year

Here's the situation: DQ in spring of senior year by AFROTC for hx patello-femoral syndrome and hx chondromalacia patella. Avid runner, 4 years of varsity XC and track. No pain. Had some swelling on 2 occasions in high school which resolved with a week of rest- MRIs were imperfect (some...

Is DODMERB used by Air National Guard or Air Force Reserves?

I would like to hear answers to this question as well. My DS did not start AFROTC (current freshman) because his waiver was denied prior to the start of school (chondromalacia patella, asymptomatic, avid runner). Therefore the AFROTC scholarship that he had been awarded was useless to him...

    is chondromalacia waiverable?

This was my DS. Very sad indeed. He is moving forward as best he can. Was a college D3 recruit for track and yet denied waiver for chondromalacia patella (asymptomatic). I pray for you that this does not happen to you. He lost the scholarship. I know he dreams of doing something with the...

    NROTC DoDMERB Worries

My DS had a similar situation. OCD lesion was a single DQ. 3 season XC/track athlete led to some knee swelling during his junior year- which led to an MRI- which showed a possible OCD lesion. He did not get a waiver. We even tried to prove it "healed" by getting a recent MRI, because he has...

Denied AFROTC. Struggling to accept. Advice?

Hello, I am looking for support. My DS was denied a waiver through AFROTC after receiving a scholarship for engineering. He is devastated over this. I have talked with DODMERB Consultants, and it is pretty clear that he will never receive a waiver from any branch of the military. He had an...

    AROTC Waiver help...

Sadly, my DS had a DQ for history of osteochondral defect as well. He is an AFROTC scholarship recipient. Automatically had wavier review due to scholarship status. Waiver was denied. Air Force dreams are shot. It is especially hard to swallow because he is a varsity track athlete, XC as...

    AROTC vs

Hello, My DS has an AFROTC scholarship offer with a waiver denial. I have heard from many sources that navy and army are more apt to waive medical DQs than others. The schools that he is considering do not offer NROTC but there is an option for Army. He wants to one day be a pilot. Is there...

    AFROTC scholarship acceptance question

Hi folks, DS would like to convert 4 year Type 7 to a 3 year Type 2 AFROTC scholarship. He will be choosing a school in the next month and accepting the scholarship. Question is, with a current "waiver denied" status by AFROTC waiver authority, can he accept the scholarship now, and work on...

AFROTC Scholarship- waiver denied, next steps?

Thanks, this is quite frustrating. The AFROTC Scholarship has to be "accepted" by May 31st. Is it realistic to think that an appeal can be done by then? I don't imagine that you can accept the scholarship unless you are medically qualified?

AFROTC Scholarship- waiver denied, next steps?

What are the steps in appealing with AFROTC? DS has not picked a school yet. We are hoping that someone has been through this with AFROTC and can offer advice.

AFROTC Scholarship- waiver denied, next steps?

Hello, DS found out today, waiver denied by AFROTC for an old knee issue which never required surgery and fully resolved a year ago without resurfacing despite vigorous training XC, indoor track and outdoor track. It is a lot on the line financially. What can we do now? Any advice? Ugh. Thanks

Why wouldn't they have said no by now?

Thank you for the replies. Certainly helpful. I will keep positive. And DS is moving forward with planning for Plan B. AFROTC Scholarship helps, and at least AFROTC has initiated a waiver so that is good. Best of luck to all of these great kids.

Why wouldn't they have said no by now?

DS has a DQ since Feb. No waiver has been requested. Which, from what I have read, means he is not considered competitive for an appointment. So why don't they just say no now? Why the wait? Is it even possible at this point for him to receive an offer of appointment? It seems to be hard...

    Awaiting waiver, what happens if...

We are in a similar situation with AFROTC Scholarship and awaiting a waiver decision. I talked to DODMERB last week, and was told that because DS has a scholarship offer, the AFROTC waiver authority will automatically review his DQ and consider him for waiver. That it could take 4-6 weeks from...
