    Parents Weekend

Parents: Enjoy your time with your plebes! It's an awesome weekend, but it goes really fast. We really enjoyed the checking out process from our DS's room in Bancroft. Seeing him interact with the detailers exhibited real change from the boy we dropped off just 7 weeks prior. One thing that...

    Ugh....

I'm nervous just remembering our anxiety last year at this time. They'll be fine! Going to cheer on the sailing team on Block Island this week, so I'll be sure to toast them from Rhode Island.

    To Validate or Not?

Spot on! DS validated quite a few courses as well, but made life quite miserable throughout ac year, but with that being said, he's now happy he pushed through and did it as his schedule will really open up after his youngster year.

    Company information for plebe summer

Academy Insider can provide a treasure trove of information for incoming plebes, parents, and friends. From IDay info to where to get the best sandwiches in DTA to PPW info and anything else you could possibly think of. The tips and information he provided last year were not only helpful to our...

JP-5 Converters Overhead - AKA Blue Angels

We attended the practice show on Tuesday, weather was perfect btw. I've been to a couple of their shows, most recently at Oshkosh two years ago and this show was awesome, as it seemed like they were performing lower than I've seen at other locations. Regarding the "sneak pass" , I think there...

    Oath of Office

DS's grandfather administered his personal oath outside next to the Macedonian Monument. It probably took about 5 min max (would've been quicker, but the first location chosen was a tad crowded). DS was happy to have his grandfather do it, and my father was absolutely honored to be a part of...

    I-day physical readiness

Best advice...run!!! Run some more. And then run again. Really. Run, run, and run. Totally serious.

USNA Induction Day class of 2023

That's funny you brought that up! My friends and I were discussing that scene all weekend the last time we were there... There was quite the debate regarding which gate it actually was, or was supposed to be. It looks like some kind of Hollywood magic mish-mash of two different gates if you...

USNA Induction Day class of 2023

Absolutely! We did the exact same thing. It was nice to escape into the air conditioning throughout the day. Use gate #3---you'll almost never wait (there might be a little line if you enter immediately before the march into Bancroft.

    How many days for IDOC?

X2 on the heat and humidity! We anticipated that, it's part of the reason we wanted a place close to the yard. We changed a couple of times that day. My 70 year old father walked back to the house right before the group oath and changed into his full army uniform for the personal oath he...

    How many days for IDOC?

Your plans are exactly the same as what we did (DS is a plebe class of 2022). The timing was just perfect for us. Just enough to relax, but not too much time for him to get over anxious. The Midstore was perfect to visit on Tuesday when we arrived because there were hardly any other families...

To precut or not to precut, that is the question.

Thanks for the post. There were some responses that certainly answered the question posted and for that I'm appreciative. I included the "that 70's show" reference to tip off readers of the actual levity of the question. The topic has not seriously been discussed between myself and DS. It's...

To precut or not to precut, that is the question.

Thanks for the advice. This is a message board and I'm simply drumming up conversation. I thought the question was lighthearted and fun. For all of the great advice and friendly information I've come across on these forums, I'm equally surprised how often people chime in with negative...

To precut or not to precut, that is the question.

Good morning! DS's Head of hair is starting to resemble something very similar to Eric Foreman or Kelso. Is it a good idea to we trim it down before I day? I'm thing once he gets the cut there, his head will be as white as this background and prone to a nasty sunburn during the first few...

    Press release to announce appointment.

Thanks for the feedback, but I think my intentions are being misconstrued. I'm not looking to submit a "brag" piece, but simply an announcement that acknowledges the fact that an appointment has been accepted and where and what he'll be doing. Through out this whole process I've heard it said...

    Press release to announce appointment.

Hello everyone, Has anyone written a press release for appointment announcement? PTR included a press release for plebe summer, but was looking for something announcing an appointment to send to newspaper. Our local TV station ran a story about a local girl getting accepted to NAPS, but DS...

Countdown to I-Day... How do you say "good bye" ?

Wow! That hits home. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate all the feedback. Sometimes it's very reassuring knowing that others have the same anxieties and excitement. I've wondered about these intense feelings of pride, as to whether or not they'll eventually dull or subside. I'm just as...

Countdown to I-Day... How do you say "good bye" ?

Lol, that sounds like a good plan! Eerily similar to what I envision... Perhaps the Navy should provide that prescription in each PTR.

Countdown to I-Day... How do you say "good bye" ?

Hello everyone, So IDay is approaching, seemingly quite fast now. We as parents are brimming with pride as our DS prepares for the next chapter in his young life. Along with pride and excitement, we as parents are beginning to feel a bit nervous and scared at the prospect of our DS leaving...
