Do I have a chance at any 4-year scholarship?

When my son applied for NROTC, he was told that tattoos are an immediate disqualification.

Can anyone just anyone award you your ROTC Scholarship with the big check?

Good questions. In addition to online, I think that my DS may have received a letter via email or snail-mail. After accepting the scholarship, we contacted the Chief Master Sargent who is the senior enlisted person for our recruiting district. He was more than happy to come to our local high...

    Room and Board

I've mentioned this before. George Washington's room and board is about $13,000 per year. ROTC scholarship recipients receive an $8,000 discount. Paying only $5,000 per year for GWU is amazing!

    Summer School Tuition

All, my DS was informed by his commanding officer that the Navy will not pay for his summer school class since he needs to take it due to a change in major. So, we will pay for the class from his 529. When looking at the overall picture, not a big deal, but this is something to keep in mind if...

How many NROTC Scholarships are awarded per year?

When my DS applied for NROTC last year, I seem to remember that his recruiter said something like 20,000-22,000 people start the application process, about 2,300 scholarships are offered, and less than 1,500 end up accepting of which about 250-300 are Marine option. Can somebody please confirm this?

    Pay for NROTC Summer Cruises?

My DS found out that his Summer Cruise is out of San Diego. I asked if Dear Old Dad could fit in his bag. He just smiled and shook his head, no. Does anybody know if the Summer Cruise compensation has changed since this thread started back in 2013?

    Question Regarding the NROTC Scholarship

Ikasaru7, my DS just changed from a Tier 1 to a Tier 2 during his 1st semester freshman year. He ran it by his Commanding Officer before filing some paperwork. It got approved very quickly. He could not be happier with his new major.

    Summer School Tuition

My DS, who has a Naval ROTC scholarship, recently changed his major from Tier 1 to Tier 2 which was approved by the Navy. In order to catch up with everybody else in his new major and so that he can finish in 4 years, he needs to take 1-2 classes this summer after his Summer Cruise. Does anybody...

    ROTC Roommate

Someone at GWU started an Incoming Freshman Facebook page last spring. Via Facebook, my DS arranged to room with a fellow Midshipman and two non-NROTC freshmen in a quad. They are all engineers which has worked out well.

    Room and Board

My DS is on scholarship at GW. He receives $4k per semester in R&B discounts. This knocks the roughly $13k annual bill down to $5k which is very reasonable.

    Selected For NROTC

Jeepman, please keep in mind that this info is from 2016 for the 2017-2018 school year. My DS had a 730 Math and 660 English along with a 3.95 GPA and Tier-1 major. In addition, he was a 4 year letter winner, 2x Team Captain, and played club sports for 12 years. He submitted his application in...
