    AROTC Scholarship

I have two sons that are currently in college, one at West Point and the other at Boston College, on a 4 year AROTC scholarship. On their "senior awards night" the Army did not send a representative. All other services were represented, including all of the other academies, and ROTC programs. In...

Trying to book for A Day....

I would only add that the town of Mahwah, NJ, has a lot of hotels, and is about the same driving time as Newburg and Fishkill NY. Nice drive that takes you by a huge outlet center, and Camp Buckner on the way in to WP. Roxanne's Italian grill is a winner.

    CULP assignments are coming out...

Agree that it depends on HR person. My son went to Latvia last June, and got his $800+ when he returned to campus in September. When he left last June he did not know what to expect. He ended up spending a few weeks in a joint training exercise with forces from all of the Baltic countries...

    Summer CULP Program

My son is at Fort Knox this week, preparing to go over to Latvia for three weeks, with the CULP program. The CULP program is available to ROTC participants, and seems like a great opportunity. Here is a link for anyone interested for next summer. http://www.cadetcommand.army.mil/culp/ Any...

    Rotc scholarship transfer question

In addition to the points of contact above, this is a link to the BC AROTC contacts. I would start with the HR Administrator for BC ROTC. He is very helpful. Good luck and get on the phone. You only have an outside shot, and you need to be very active to get people on your side, and interested...

    Army ROTC March 2013 Board

BC and BU are in different battalions, that is why you will not see them listed together. I agree with the advice given above, more time on the phone and less on the computer. BC's ROTC points of contact are up to date at their website. My son is there, and I have found them to be very helpful.

    Defense Department Budget Cuts

Thanks for the laugh scoutpilot. Obviously, some of that money went to some advanced IT training for officers!

Does My Admissions Officer Know My Fate?

I have 2 sons that have recently been in the position you are in now. USMA came through for one, he is now a junior at the academy. It did not come through for the other, and his "credentials" were almost identical to his brothers, who got a LOA that year. Younger son, who is now a freshman...

    Defense Department Budget Cuts

A few paragraphs from the article, that speaks to some impact on the DOD. VERY significant and dangerous situations. Too early to tell regarding any long term impact to the academies. By the way my son, who is a Cow, says the food is fine. My other son who is at BC on an Army ROTC scholarship...

    Football Saturday at West Point

I am very glad I logged on to see your post. My wife and I are headed to the BC game this weekend. It will be our first game at Michie Stadium. Oldest son is a Cow, and youngest is a freshman at BC, on a 4 year ROTC scholarship. Have not seen the oldest since he left to be a squad leader at...

    Dodmerb

Suggest that you contact DODMERB directly. I have found them to be pretty quick to call you back if you have to leave a voicemail. Link to their site is https://dodmerb.tricare.osd.mil/Default.aspx, and contacts on the left side will get you a phone number. They will need your SSN to access...

Ultimate Sacrifice - Maj. Thomas Kennedy

May he rest in peace. Tears in my eyes as I stare at the lovely photo of him and his family. The words 'ultimate sacrifice' don't even scatch the surface.

NROTC version of "Anyone still waiting out there?"

Still waiting here.....I am pretty sure the NROTC program has been eliminated. Hard to find proof that they exist, other than a few people that got early notices back in the Fall. I know the Naval Academy still exists, because I can see it from the end of my street!

Can I transfer my 4 year scholarship to another school?

Hang in there, breath, and follow the advice above. I have been on the phone recently with Cadet Command and certain ROTC Commanders, and have been given very consistent, and solid advice. The above is a great summary of what I have been told.

    AROTC Scholarship - Official Letter?

My son got his a few months ago, after the first board decisions. It came soon after his status changed on the portal page, and it was consistent with what was online.

    R-Day or Acceptance Day?

I posted this last year in a similar thread. Hope it is helpful. My ranking of the experiences, as a plebe parent this year: 1) A-Day weekend, and the word weekend is key here. The anticipation for the A-Day parade, and then waiting to see my son for the first time in many weeks was very...

    got my NWL

I think this is a good summary. I would just add, that for this year, having a plan B is going to be more important than in the last few years. I had a very good conversation with one of the regional team leads in the admissions office (not sure what they are called at this forum), and his...

    Cow Loan

No, I don't think you are missing anything. Compounding interest is the difference. I thought it was a good discussion, but if it were me, I would do what you are in the process of doing. This has been a good thread, because you usually hear about the loan and what different cadets do with...

    Cow Loan

Anyone considering the loan should read this thread There is a back and forth near the beginning of this thread regarding responsible use of the loan, and an alternative of forgoing the loan, but forcing yourself to invest what you would be paying on the loan, which is approximately $600...

    Cow Loan

Interesting thread. My son will have to make this decision next year. What is the length of the loan? AF stated $36K at .75%, what is the answer to, for ____ months. My thought on this, is that the only prudent thing to do, is to invest the money. Borrowing money at 1% or even 0% for a car is...
