    State Nomination Threads - Moderated

I know this was some time ago, but does Senator Shelby do interviews? I can’t find anything on his site about interviews and DS has heard nothing from his office. Thanks.

2023 SA applicants - has anyone been medically cleared yet?

My son has his physical and vision done 7/19/18 and it has not been updated. I called the clinic and they said they send them on the same day of service, so just...waiting.

    No urinalysis at dodmerb physical?

We just got back from DS’s dodmerb physical. He said they did not do a urinalysis and he was surprised. Is a urinalysis not usually part of the exam or we will we be going back? Thx!

    Bun advice

I always French braided my hair (while wet) when I was enlisted and tucked the end up under the braid, secured w/ Bobby pins. If you do it while wet, it holds better, especially for layered hair. Watch some YouTube videos. I had no idea how to french braid my hair until a drill sergeant...

Help Please Recent DQ D155.70 Myopia Refractive greater than -8.00 diopters

GoCubbies is correct about retinal issues later in life. Please tell your daughter it is very important to have regular dilated eye exams. I did not go to the eye doc regularly after lasik and when I finally went I had to have emergency laser surgery on both eyes to repair multiple large tears...

    Brothers competing for nominations?

Here I am, once again expressing my anxiety on this forum. Please forgive me, but I am just at a loss. My youngest son is pursuing a nomination for USNA class of 2023. He is diligently working and I am so proud of him. He is 16 years old. My older son, who is enlisted in the Army, has...

    Celebrating Special Moments in Life!

You miss him so much, don’t you? This brought tears to my eyes. Lovely summation of watching your child step into his future. May he thrive at USNA.

    Nominations for active duty?

Hi. My DS and I are confused about something and we have not been able to find info on this on the web. I am hoping someone on this forum can help shed some light. He is active duty army. He wants to get a degree and then fly, so he is considering going back to school via either the Air Force...

    Teacher Evaluations

Brodiecaps, my son’s candidate profile (USNA) is asking for a math evaluation and English evaluation. Who is asking for chemistry or physics? Is that for the nomination? I am a little confused. No matter which one it is, You will have to send your final high school transcripts to the academy...

    Teacher Evaluations

Also, teacher evaluations are not due until Dec. So if you work as hard as you say you will, and you know you can do a better job, wait and get one from your teacher this year once they have seen how you work/participate in the fall. No one say everything has to be done right now.

    Teacher Evaluations

Hi. I would recommend that you have a conversation with that teacher either by email or phone and ask if he/she would be willing to provide a recommendation. Odds are very good that if you gave your best effort and stayed engaged in class that your teacher will have good things to say about you...

    Gifts for the SA kid?

I am hesitant to write this (and you’ll see why in a moment), but here it goes. My favorite things of all to send my son when he was in Army training were cards with confetti in the envelope, and a card with Happy Birthday written on the outside of the envelope. For all of these items DS had...

    Convincing my Mom

As a mom, I can tell you that watching your child do something that might put them in harm’s way is very difficult. In addition, when a young person leaves for military service, they are basically “gone from the nest”. There are no long summer breaks when the kid will once again be hanging...

Prior Enlisted for USNA Class of 2022

Definitely all true Captain MJ! He has a lot of decisions to make about his next move. He is also feeling that it might be wise to be discreet about asking questions about this on his base because he has not ruled out simply re-enlisting for the right combination of MOS + bonus. Thank you for...

    CFA Workout

Kgrant19, we put a pull-up bar (cost $35) in the basement where we go in and out of the house. There is now a sign on both sides of our door to do 5 pull-ups when we come or go. We are all doing it to support our son. I can do three good ones (and a few more bad ones) and I am an old lady, so I...

Prior Enlisted for USNA Class of 2022

As former enlisted, who did you contact to gather info about this process? My Active Army son is considering trying to get into a SA for Aviation or Aerospace Engineering. He is 21. He’s got to make things happen quickly if he takes this route. He is also considering a ROTC route if the SA is...
