    SF86 Question

I would do exactly what the directions tell you to do otherwise you might get some attention. But, what you will need is just the pages that apply to you. They are going to have you sit down and enter the data in a computer. They want you to have it already filled out so all you have to do is...

How to answer the "Why" question..

It is important to think about what they are looking for in an essay. You want to go to the Air Force Academy and you want to maximize your chances of getting in. So, naturally, you want to write an essay that resonates with them. I think the best approach is to consider their core values...

    Soaring or Jumping

A retired Air Force Colonel told me that outside of USAFA, generally only enlisted get jump qualified and get to wear the jump wings. He said one of the longer-term benefits of doing jump at USAFA is that once you commission, everyone will know you want to the Academy because you will be an...

Medically Dq'd for USAFA but received ROTC Scholarship - Q's

I believe a DODMERB portal specified the next steps after receiving the DQ for both USAFA and AFROTC. There is a form to complete and submit and potentially another evaluation from a physician. But, I believe the DQ is issued by DODMERB. So, if he is DQ'd for USAFA, he will be DQ'd for AFROTC...

Medically Dq'd for USAFA but received ROTC Scholarship - Q's

You can get a waiver if you are DQ'd. My son attends college on a Type 1 AFROTC scholarship and my daughter is at USAFA. Both were DQ'd for similar, but different reasons (knee) and both received waivers. The USAFA waiver seemed much easier to obtain.

Accepted but injured - How do I respond?

There isn't an easy option, you still have to participate in BCT. They will evaluate and decide. If you have to sit out too much, you go home. For example, coming off ACL surgery, you have to be able to run, but they might not make you do drills where you have to make sharp cuts or turns...

Accepted but injured - How do I respond?

My daughter, USAFA Class of 2026, went through the admissions process last year. A few weeks after she submitted all her paperwork, she blew out her ACL and tore her meniscus. She had surgery on 7DEC2022. She submitted her update to DODMERB and they cleared her. She had to report on...

    I-Day information

Out daughter is Class of 2026 at USAFA so we just went through I-Day last June. My wife and I both traveled with her out to Colorado Springs a few days early to explore the area and help her get acclimated to the altitude. On I-Day, her drop-off time was early, around 7:30 am and the drop-off...

    No nomination, any hope?

I would still apply. If USAFA decides they want you, I think they have ways to help you get a nom.

What Else to Pack + Bring to I-Day?

Does anyone know if the USAFA really cares if they bring cotton underwear? My daughter would rather wear something more sports-performance type underwear. Cotton actually sounds terrible to me. But the Appointee Handbook clearly states cotton underwear and sports bra. Any guidance on this...
