    Honors Program at Norwich?

Cool thread I came across. I went to Norwich, did NROTC, completed the Civic Scholar Program, completed the Honors Program, did multiple clubs, worked a couple on campus jobs, and had a good time along the way. Not sure how helpful the Honors Program was, as I'm at year 2 as an LTJG about to...

    School, Reserves, ROTC at College?

Mmm... I'm no expert, but I think what you've been reading is the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP). I know AROTC does this but not sure about AFROTC. Either way, your son still needs to be contracted in order to join SMP. You can't join SMP right into freshmen year. I'm pretty sure he still...

    School, Reserves, ROTC at College?

My cousin did near the same thing your son wants to do. After graduating high school, he was hesitant on what he wanted to do, and his family couldn't afford for him to go to college. He enlisted in the Kansas Air National Guard sometime over the summer, and shipped to BMT in San Antonio in the...

Dropping NROTC Scholarship to Enlist SEAL

I'll just add on to what I know from the people I know that went the SEAL route, and you and your DS can take that for what it's worth: 1) Dropped out of NROTC midway through his sophomore year (not contracted), finished his college degree, and enlisted with a SEAL contract. Made it through...

Dropping NROTC scholarship for advanced standing?

AS is a shorter path to the GI Bill. On scholarship (whether 2, 3, or 4 year), the commitment to have 100% of the GI Bill is 8 years. For AS, it is only 3 years.

    Service Selection Help

Generally speaking, if a MIDN doesn't want nuclear, they should not put nuclear on their service assignment sheet. By rule, they cannot pick you for nuclear if it is not on your service assignment sheet. This is how they get away with not "drafting" MIDN to be nukes, because if it is on their...

    APFT Help

It may seem like a small number, but 9 push-ups is considerable ground to make up in two days. It took me 3 months of doing 100 push ups every day to increase my number from 90 to 95 in the Navy PRT (got that max score though ;)).

    NROTC at Norwich?

Rising senior in NROTC at Norwich, and have had a positive experience here. Most likely would have dropped out of a regular college and enlisted, but I wasn't for the "normal" experience.

Army ROTC to NROTC MO / NROTC to Army ROTC

At least at SMCs (not sure about civilian schools), it happens quite often. More so NROTC or AFROTC to AROTC around the second year mark. Reasons for is knowing they are not going to get a contract, or not passing the AFOQT, etc. More than likely you'll have to go to basic camp though. There...

    NROTC instructor problem

I've had my fair share of 3 mile ruck runs up our next door mountain in Vermont with a 40lb ruck sack, as well as regular 6 mile ruck marches with 70lb rucks sacks. I have taken a multitude of CFT's since I have been here as well, and this is coming from a Navy mid. I get that every unit in the...

Coast Guard DCSS - How Does it Work?

Keep reading the "DCSS eligibility requirements." https://www.gocoastguard.com/active-duty-careers/officer-opportunities/programs/direct-commission-selected-school-dcss-program The Coast Guard DCSS program can only be participated in at select schools. Most of them are at SMCs (Senior Military...

    Commissioning Question

And that is understood. For four year scholarships, yeah, I don't know a student that is not an engineering major (or nursing). I didn't know though whether that applied for campus based though. If it is the case, then that is good to know, and I'll stand corrected.

    Commissioning Question

Mmm... I don't think I would say he wouldn't get a scholarship if he wasn't a STEM major. I also wouldn't say it is near impossible or even unlikely. Many of my rook siblings (SMC jargon) were/are AFROTC. One is a business management major. He had a decent GPA at a 3.4 and a PT score of around...

MO College Program Progression: Up or Out?

If a MIDN picks up a 4, 3, or 2 year scholarship, the minimum service commitment for Marine Options is 4 years, and Navy Options 5 years. If a MIDN picks up Advanced Standing, the minimum service commitment is 3 years. Granted, there are communities, such as pilot and submarines that commit a...

Should I focus my efforts more of AF or Naval ROTC

Environmental Science is actually STEM in NROTC (idk about AFROTC). I know this because there's plenty of MIDN in my unit that are environmental science and are Tier 2.

Should I focus my efforts more of AF or Naval ROTC

I actually know more Mids that commissioned aviation that were liberal arts majors than STEM.
