    Thanks. Any process involved with potential upgrades? Would working with ROO at his school of choice (where he got the scholarship to) make a difference? I.E. can they advocate?

    Can a 3 YR AD winner in the 2nd round stay in the pool for a 4 YR scholarship in the 3rd round? If not, do the school programs every award that 4th year for a freshman? Or by accepting the 3 yr are we set with 3 years of scholarship and one year (freshman) out-of-pocket?

    If a student is awarded a 3 YR AD AROTC on the second board, can he still be in the mix for a 4 YR in the 3rd board? If so, anything in particular he needs to do to make that happen? If not, can the college AROTC program award that extra year up front, or are we pretty much set with 3 years...

    Have a question about the binding nature of the 3 yr AD award. If my son participates for the first year and decides that AROTC is not for him, will he have any obligation? I understand that with the 4-yr the obligation begins immediately. Thanks.

    What does "4 year, 3 yr advanced designee" mean. My son would be an incoming freshman, so is that a three or four year award?

    I've been surprised by the dearth of any kind of statistics or data to help understand the process -- along with the somewhat contradictory anecdotal information. For instance, in contrast to what you heard, if you read some of the other threads on this board, you'd think that more scholarships...
