service obligation time extended for NROTC and USNA grads?

Yes, for sure. He is already talking about doing 8 years of active duty for that reason.

service obligation time extended for NROTC and USNA grads?

Thank you for posting the link to the official message. The way my son and his fellow junior officers are interpreting it is that they might as well serve 6 years active duty because they prefer that to the SELRES time. So it changes his timeline.

service obligation time extended for NROTC and USNA grads?

My son commissioned through NROTC in 2021. He just told me that a message went out last week extending the active duty service obligation from 5 to 6 years (for anyone who commissioned through NROTC or USNA after October 2020). I don't doubt him, but I don't see this mentioned anywhere. I mean...

    Calculus NROTC

Oh my goodness, yes, college calculus is hard for those not naturally gifted. Even if you've taken AP Calc in high school, college calculus is on another level . . . As recommended above, tackle it early (in case you need to retake) and put in place all the supports (tutoring, review sessions...

Anyone know about health insurance post commissioning? Once my mid commissions, I presume tricare then starts to cover?

Thanks, my son is commissioning in May also but won't be moving to his new location until August, so this is a helpful conversation. I hadn't thought about insurance and what providers he may wish to see this summer.

    NROTC Scholarship results?

I think sometimes people don't realize that if 85% of scholarships are reserved for Tier 1 and Tier 2 . . . then it means that 15% of scholarships are reserved for Tier 3. Congratulations to your daughter!

Need advice after TWEs from USNA and NROTC

Are Miami, ERAU, and VT affordable for one year? He has a good shot at a scholarship as a college programmer, I would think. I'm not totally sure about the option of community college since that wouldn't give him the opportunity to be a programmer and excel in a unit. Others with more...

    Rensselaer Polytechnic NROTC Roommate Search

Also, it's OK not to have a NROTC roommate. My son is about to graduate/commission and has been living in dorms for 4 years with non-NROTC roommates.

    NROTC Side Load Scholarship

For NROTC there is such a thing as winning a national scholarship during one's first year in college, which essentially makes it a 3-year national scholarship. This is different from a sideload scholarship. I'm not sure if the discussion above made that clear.

    NROTC Summer Cruise

Yeah, I'm not sure if this is the case. My son's unit is in NY, we live in PA, and he was assigned to CORTRAMID West, as were many other east coasters.

To: NROTC Board. Dear Ladies & Gentleman, It's decision time.

lol, best of luck! Where have you been admitted / where are you leaning? Great choices here.

    NROTC Boards

It's quite common for applicants not to be selected as high school seniors and to be selected in the next year (for a 3-year national scholarship). This happened for my son. So he started at his university as a College Programmer. Commissioning as SWO next month!

    NROTC-MO - RIT v. VT

Hi, my son is a 1/C in the Rochester NROTC unit, and although it's small, it seems to be a great, cohesive unit. I think it's almost one-third women. Lots of leadership opportunities. Both U of R and RIT attract smart, down-to-earth kids. My son is a student at U of R, where the unit office is...

    Switching NROTC school two times?

Were you accepted to University of Rochester? Congratulations! My son is a 1/C there. Great unit, and the office could not be centrally located on campus. Plus, Rochester will cover 100% of your room and board costs.

Re-Applying for NROTC scholarship After Gap Year

Your source does not differentiate between national scholarships awarded to high school seniors or to college freshmen.

Re-Applying for NROTC scholarship After Gap Year

I wasn't talking about side-loads, I was talking about national scholarships awarded during the student's freshman year. This seemed to be a pattern for a couple of years recently. Perhaps the policy has shifted again. There may be a thread about this somewhere . . . Anyway, I'm just saying it's...

Re-Applying for NROTC scholarship After Gap Year

These days it's rare to win a 4-year national NROTC scholarship (they have been awarding more of them to college programmers). It's lucky that you won one this year. I'm not sure that the things you mention make you a shoo-in for another one. For example, with a 33 ACT you've probably already...

How will ROTC work with coronavirus and quarantine?

Amazing that real talk about a dangerous virus and the need to mitigate it is deemed "political" by some. If patriotism and the choice to serve and to defend the United States can be viewed as being above politics, then why not COVID?

Navy NROTC Scholarship as College Programmer

First-year college programmers are eligible to (re)apply for the national NROTC scholarship if they have fewer than 30 credits. As far as I can tell, it's more likely that a first-year college programmer will be awarded a national scholarship than a sideload scholarship. Search the forums a...
