    Cyber security vs environmental major

Thanks for correcting me. I know the advice I provided is what has been stated previously about switching majors. This is why all previous advice has been that it is relatively difficult to do. It sounds like that is no longer the case.

    Cyber security vs environmental major

You can request a change of major at the end of your first year. However it isn’t guaranteed that it will honored. For it to be possible you have to hope that someone else requests the change in the opposite direction. So if you were Cyber Security and wanted to change to a Marine and...

    Cyber security vs environmental major

So yes you do have to declare a major. When you are in your final year you can select which posting you would like in order or preference. You may not get your first choice or second choice but I believe the vast majority of academy graduates are given either their first or second selection of...

Book available on CG Academy, Swab Summer, AIM

Hallelujah!! Someone who understands. I always tell applicants to try and identify their unique selling point. Other applicants will have similar academics (some better, some poorer), other applicants with have similar Athletics (some better, some poorer). Try and identify the thing or...

Gotta Petty Grudge? Secret Grievance? [Nothing Too Serious]. Foibles Welcome. No Judging!

Pumpkin spice everything!!! I love Fall but hate the emergence of Pumpkin Spice everything! On a similar vein flavored coffee!! hazelnut, French vanilla etc I just want coffee with cream and sugar please, I really don’t see the point of ordering a beverage that is made to taste like something...

Gotta Petty Grudge? Secret Grievance? [Nothing Too Serious]. Foibles Welcome. No Judging!

Thanks for the prompt. I hate HOAs. I would never buy a house when a bunch of my neighbors have the authority to tell me what I can do with it!

I hate the ‘what are my chances’ posts.

Gotta Petty Grudge? Secret Grievance? [Nothing Too Serious]. Foibles Welcome. No Judging!

Jobsworths - Definition anyone who puts their role or a rule/policy before common sense or customer service. I will give a recent example. We went to Mexico on vacation and went to a hotel that we have been to several times before because it has been so good. This was in fact our fifth time at...

    Target sat score?

There are applicants every year with near perfect scores that do not get admitted. There are also applicants with relatively low scores that do get admitted. Acceptance decisions are based on the whole applicant; academics is just one piece.

Chances + advice. All and anything welcome

Impossible to tell. For all anyone on this forum knows they may as well give you advice on what lottery numbers to pick. Remember that selection is based on the whole candidate. We cannot tell how you will come across in your interview, we do not read your application essays. Do the best you...

    USCGA interviews

I assume that sometimes interviews aren’t mandatory simply due to the amount of interaction some candidates have with academy staff. As I said my own DS attended in person AIM and Genesis; as far as I am aware neither included a formal interview but certainly lots of interaction with academy...

    Pilot slots and USCGA

Yes about 10% go to fight school straight from the academy. However many also go to flight school after they have spent some time deployed in the fleet or other duties. The Coast Guard has a higher percentage of pilots in their Officer Corp than the Air Force.

The Scholar Skinny - An detailed review For incoming 2021 Scholars from a 2020-2021 Observer

Captain I am a huge fan of yours. However I feel you are discounting feedback here simply because it is coming from parents and not a ‘primary’ source. There may well be a difference of opinion in what ‘a lot’ means and that is worth discussing. However the entirety of Objees post seems to be...

    Mirrored Sunglasses in Uniform

This brings up an interesting point. In the early days of the Iraq peacekeeping the British military decided to ban British peacekeepers from wearing sunglasses. They wanted to ensure they could make eye contact with Iraqis and help build trust. I still think this was a good decision.

The Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) thread - Post the funny stuff, please!

I once got stopped by the police for speeding. I was following a friend to go on a fishing charter and had to stop for gas. In an attempt to catch up with him I was stopped for speeding. The officer walked to the drivers side window to discuss my infraction. Unfortunately I was driving a right...

    USCGA interviews

My DS attended AIM in 2019, he also attended Genesis. He had a lot of interaction with his AO. One of the USCGA admissions staff who was visiting a city close to our home reached out and asked if he would like to have an interview. The choice was entirely his but he decided to accept the offer...

How aren't officers that are produced via service academies better than officers that come out of ROTC

It’s the same with nearly all skills. Everyone has a varying level aptitude. You can certainly improve by training and mentor ship but someone that as a high level of aptitude will always have the ability to be better than someone with a lower level of aptitude. Having said that ‘Hard work beats...
