I'm not sure if O-week will be at Gap this year, I believe they thought it was pretty successful being run on campus by upperclassmen and a Gunnery Sergeant MECEP. And yes even CP's participate.
Last year we had Orientation Week on Campus about 4 or 5 days before other students moved in, like the middle to end of August. We did O-Week on Campus and not at Fort Indiantown Gap, this was the first year that PSU's unit did not go to Gap
For all of you still waiting just hang in there a few more days. I received my scholarship right around this time last year and it was from the last board so it must be coming soon for you all. Also, whether you receive a scholarship or not keep your head up :thumb:
I just received a letter from my MOC nominating me to USNA! I am in NROTC and thus can request a nomination from the CO of my unit. I've read that there are only 20 appointments for JROTC and ROTC nominations which leads to my question, should I still apply for my CO's nomination...
JAM is right, apply to all the nominating sources you can! Because I've read on this forum multiple times that there are a limited number of appointments for (J)ROTC nominations, so it would be in your best interest to try for a nom from a MOC as well.
Actually usna1985, the CO of an NROTC unit in college can nominate up to 3 individuals to the Academy. I know this because I've been talking with a Lieutenant at my unit about securing one if I don't get a nom from a MOC.
The lack of sports might hurt a little but dunninla is right as long as you show leadership in other areas you will be okay. Also, because you do not play sports make sure you are working out on your own because to even apply for the NROTC Marine Option scholarship you have to run a PFT which is...
I was reading the article toward the end it mentions Ensigns, not 2nd LTs. Does this only apply to Navy option Midshipmen and not Marine option? I'm Class of '14 so it's a long way off for me but curiosity got the better of me and I wasn't sure if it affected the Marines.
Supportive Mom- It's nice to hear success stories from those who went to USNA from ROTC because that's the boat I'm in. And I have to agree with your son I feel like a year at college would definitely help starting at USNA if I end up making it.
I believe we have insurance when we go on CORTRAMID during the summer because I think we are on active duty then. But Centhea is correct we are not covered by the government during the school year
When I received my NROTC scholarship last year it showed up on my DoDMERB page before that scholarship status changed and before I received anything in the mail. So it's looking good for daughter if it's the same as last year :thumb:
Thank you for the well wishes and information! But yes I am in college so USNA doesn't even look at our packages until January, they want first semester grades I would think. I have everything in except CFA which one of the officers at my NROTC unit will be conducting for me in November. At my...
Thank you navy clarinet mom! But I have another question then, what exactly is "academically qualified"? Does just being named a candidate mean you are academically qualified? Because at my BGO interview he asked me if I was interested in NAPS and I told him I'd do what was necessary to get the...
Are you saying that if you 3Q'd you can not be selected for NAPS? Or that you are 3Q'd you are just lower than average on academics? Sorry I'm just confused on certain parts of NAPS.
Will it hurt my chances of getting a nomination through my local MoC and my two Senators because I am also applying for a nomination from the CO at my NROTC unit? Just curious.
I'm NROTC MO but I figure it's the same process. Last week I had to sign a form that stated the amount of miles driven, it's from your zip code you came from to the zip code of the college, and I don't know the exact rate per mile you are paid but you are also paid a $99 per diem fee for the...
Like probably most other ROTC students I don't skip meals either and my bill for room and board this semester was just under $4400. But I chose the highest level meal plan.
