My mid told me last night that they were to be within an hour travel time this weekend but liberty has not been cancelled.
I imagine plans are "fluid". (not necessarily a pun.)
With my husband and I being "Old Ags" and living in College Station, we always assumed our daughter would go to A&M. Then she got the Naval Academy bug and A&M became the fallback position. Nonetheless, she attended an Aggie Eagle program and was thrilled to receive a NROTC scholarship to A&M...
Don't get too carried away making plans for sightseeing or the like. Your plebe will likely just want to get away, eat large amounts of food, sleep and sit around in shorts with those s/he loves and, more importantly, those who love him/her.
The biggest thing I have learned this year is to NOT try to FIX things. :rolleyes: It is up to your plebe to make it happen.
If you haven't already, begin this process. Stop filling out forms, making deposits, anticipating your plebe-to-be's needs. I thought I had raised a very independent...
Reporting in--
We arrived too early. DD got pretty nervous as we approached Alumni Hall. She ended up going in 20 min. early.:eek:
The Chaplains are terrific. The Rabbi was very effective at relieving some tension. "Who ya gonna call? The Chaplains.":yllol:
Regarding the meetup after the...
Keep your :smile: going.
There are fewer slots for NROTC than for USNA. And you were only considered for the slots at your five colleges.
The criteria are different.
Never say die, FlytillIdie!
Hey fellow Texans!
My daughter is a plebe in 28 Company. What kind of info can I help y'all with? I can't help with the CVW decision--my daughter wasn't offered one. I will say that the Academy is not quite like what Sarah experienced at summer seminar. Sarah says she is willing to talk to...
:rolleyes:Stats are not everything. Relying on them is why OP thought she was a long-shot. Leadership, communication ability and plain-old gumption make a difference. Do your best to see that they are displayed in your application.
We attended the Texas Gulf Coast AAB, as did SingaporeMom. Fundraising for that ball included the sale of sets of wineglasses engraved with the various academy crests (4 for $60) and $20 raffle tickets for three big prizes -- 2 different weekend stays in Galveston ($800 each) and a gorgeous...
Yes, travel expenses are reimbursed to the plebe. Mom and Dad will probably never see the money. :biggrin:
I believe the same holds true for summer assignments away from the Yard. But not trips home at Thanksgiving, Christmas or spring break.
The roommate situation varies by company. And...
My daughter had surgery for a torn rotator cuff and she received a medical waiver about six months after surgery based on additional info from her surgeon.:smile:
However, she has continued to have weakness in her shoulder through Plebe Summer and just now seems to be getting strength back at...
Never, never, NEVER tell your son you want him to go to a service academy because you didn't. It's not about you.
Teach your children integrity, love of country, service to others, love of learning. Read to them regularly and let them read to you later. Encourage competition without cruelty...
I looked at this in comparison to my daughter's record (USNA '14, 4-year NROTC scholarship turned down).
* Looks like his grades are good.
* Rumor has it you want Verbal and Math at least 600 each on the SAT.
* Leadership: check!
* Service: check!
* Assuming he has passed the fitness...
I would do that too but first I would have to clean up all the junk I've stashed in her room since she's been gone.:rolleyes:
My plebe said they 100% on their Alpha inspection. Having lived with her for her first 18 3/4 years, this amuses me to no end. :eek:
