    Problem with DODMERB

DD just scheduled her exams and on the medical history report, the section with eye questions is shaded and says "see opto exam." We can't find an opto exam report anywhere on the site. Is this something that is provided by the eye doctor?

    Any appointments yet?

This! Some offers are easier to pass on than others, but when they've got great offers and great schools, the waiting is so hard!

    Any appointments yet?

DD is anxiously awaiting. Has multiple offers for sports at state/private schools which are hard for her to pass on. Still holding out for now. Can't wait to see how soon they start rolling in.

    Osgood Waiver Question - USCGA

My DD is currently working on her application to the USCGA. She was diagnosed with OSD two years ago. It does not currently cause her any issues. I know it's a DQ condition, but I've heard/read that receiving a waiver shouldn't be an issue. Can anyone here confirm receipt of a waiver (USCGA) for...

USCGA Class of 2025 Appointment Thread

My DD has visited twice and I’m so glad we were able to do so. She loves the campus, small class sizes, and the athletic facilities. We still have have a ways to go (she’s a sophomore in HS) but being on that campus definitely fuels the fire toward achieving that goal.

    New Hair Regs for Women

I just saw a post from the USAF on Facebook, introducing new female hair regs that allow for ponytails, braids, and locs. I wonder if USCG will follow suit.

    Air Station Visit

That's a good point regarding COVID. (Living in Florida, seems like everything's open as long as you're wearing a mask, but that wouldn't be the case at a federal site.) She'll definitely be applying for AIM. She went up for "Bear for a Day" in 2019 and loved it.

    Air Station Visit

My DD (HS sophomore) has visited the academy and loves it. Now, she would like to visit a Coast Guard base and/or air station. We live in Florida so there are plenty to choose from. I was thinking Air Station Clearwater since it's one of the largest and only about a 1.5 hour drive from our...

Curious re Scores: PSAT vs. SAT vs. Retakes

My DD is taking the SAT in February and the ACT in March for that very reason. Hoping to target her efforts towards the one she feels the most comfortable with. Thank you for sharing!

Curious re Scores: PSAT vs. SAT vs. Retakes

Ouch! That stinks about the calculator. I'm a teacher and I've definitely seen a decline in critical thinking/logic/reasoning skills since the arrival of the pandemic! Hopefully, your DS will bounce back after being back in the classroom. My daughter's PSAT10 math score was a little lower than...

Curious re Scores: PSAT vs. SAT vs. Retakes

Good afternoon, y’all. As my DD prepares for her first attempt at the SAT, I find myself wondering what others have experienced with their scores. Did you see much difference between PSAT and SAT scores? Was there much growth between the first and second (or subsequent) attempts on the SAT? Did...

    Question for Athletes

I did read somewhere that "joining the military" is one of the ways an NLI can be deemed null and void. I wonder if accepting an appointment at an SA falls under that umbrella. Hmmm....

    Question for Athletes

Is there an issue with CGA if they find out you backed out of a verbal with another school? I would like to think they know what’s at stake for these athletes and understand the decisions that need to be made, but I can also see where it might not look so good. That’s the part my daughter is...

    Question for Athletes

My DD, currently a sophomore in HS, is an athlete. She’s visited the academy a couple of times already and absolutely loves it. It’s definitely her first choice. That said, she’s nervous about the possibility of rejecting offers to play for other schools while holding out for CGA. Appointments...

Summer Stem ~ Class of 2027

My DD is a freshman in HS and my friends can’t believe “she’s already talking about this stuff.” She’s doing more than talking though...she’s visited the Coast Guard Academy twice and just submitted her application to USNA Summer Stem. Still a looooonnnnng way to go, but It’s nice to be reminded...
