How many people usually apply for a pilot slot?

I have to agree with ChristCorp. If you ask any appointee if they want to fly, most will say YES!. Three years later it is a different story and is probably about 50 percent. In addition to the committment, the cadets often get a chance to go up in some sort of air force plane during deployed...

    AFA Informant Program

I spoke with two cadets yesterday about the story. They were pretty perplexed about the whole situation. One of them mentioned that cadets need to understand that they are always allowed to ask for an attorney and not talk to anyone without their attorney present. He said that even if he...

    I Day 2014

In 2010, my DS missed his Virginia high school graduation. It was the same day as I day.

Big week for the Seniors coming up.

We had a couple of C1Cs at our house this weekend too. They seem to think it is also indefinitely delayed.

    Knowledge Tests > Help

I think USAFA10's post is spot on. Also, I forgot to mention that my DS said that the freshman should treat Knowledge Tests as a separate class. They should budget time for it and consider it part of their academics so it doesn't get overlooked.

    Knowledge Tests > Help

I know that alot of freshman have trouble with knowledge tests. My DS is a firstee who aced who his knowledge tests when he was a 4 degree. I asked him for tips to give to freshmen who are struggling and this is what he said: 1) Expect to spend about 8 hours a week on studying for knowledge...

    Checklist before BCT

My 2014 DS also had the same experience with getting stuck multiple times. He still says that was the worst part of I day. He is now going to be a flight commander for 2nd beast-- can't believe how fast the time goes (for us, not him).

    BCT 2013

My DS didn't have any cash with him and it was super super stressful. Every letter he wrote begged for us to send money. It takes awhile for letters to go back and forth, so he didn't get the money until after he no longer needed it. He had to borrow money from other cadets which was ok but he...

    Wisdom Teeth

My DS is a rising senior and the usafa dentists have determined that he doesn't need to have his wisdom teeth out. I think that the USAFA dentists will end up making that determination.

Thanks so much for the information Flieger83! Our friend's son was a bit disoriented by the change for a day or two (had to wrap his head around the whole concept) but now he is full speed ahead excited for his appointment. We told him to get used to being disoriented

My DS is a C2C (almost a firstee) but we have very good friends whose son received a letter last month saying he wasn't accepted to USAFA this year or the prep school and to feel free to apply next year. He accepted a 4 year ROTC scholarship at the state university and was moving along with his...

    Immunization Record Email

My C2C DS said that they had to stick him 5 or 6 times before they could take blood (probably because he was a bit dehydrated). Said that was the worst part of I day hands down. If he didn't have the immunization records with him, he also would have had to get several shots that he didn't need...

    Immunization Record Email

The cadets should bring copies of immunization records with them on I Day! Just in case........

    Citizenship by naturalization

that is not a problem at all. We know a current cadet who had the same situation.

Who can come to parrents weekend?

And no matter how old or young the visitors are, encourage them to drink alot of water. We were attending my DS physics class his first year at the academy. One of the fathers of another cadet proceeded to collapse and have a seizure in the middle of the lesson because he had just arrived in...

Who can come to parrents weekend?

One year my DS's high school friend was in town because her brother was playing soccer against USAFA. So she came to watch the game and did all the Parent's Weekend activities with us-- she even came to classes. Parents Weekend is very welcoming -- so bring whomever you think can handle the...

Advice for Parents Booking for I-Day

I agree with Stealth-- Every situation is different and everyone has to do what they think is right for their family. We chose to ask our son what he wanted us to do. We felt like he was going to have a very challenging 4 years ahead of him and we wanted to lighten his load if we could. Our son...

    college credits

I don't think USAFA uses AP credits the same way as other colleges do. My understanding is that the cadets have to test up and out of classes. During basic training, the basics will take alot of placement tests. Many will use that time to sleep. If they do well on the tests, they can place out...

    RI day - physical?

It is a good idea for the basics to take a copy of the immunization record with them for I day. If the record gets misplaced your basic will get a lot of shots they don't really need. My cadet said the worst part of I day was getting blood drawn because they couldn't find his vein (hard to find...
