    Hair Cut

My DS had not had a haircut in 3 months. His hair was the longest it had ever been (and probably ever will be) just get the haircut there

    Math Placement

My DS had to take the two before BCT and then another at the end of BCT. They take a methodical approach to the placement it seems so liek others have said, go with their recommendation and talk it over with your counselor or the math dept if you have questions/concerns.

    Long Distance Relationships....

Here is one positive. I told you how my HS GF and I didn't work out. I met my future wife 2 years later in AFROTC. She was 3 years behind me and we dated for 18 months then we got engaged the month before I went Active Duty 2,000 miles away. We talked all the time, visited each other when...

    Long Distance Relationships....

I agree with the above posts. Let me give you the added perspective of civilian college. I went away, my GF did not. You will be exposed to a very different environment and life experiences than she will which will change in you in different ways - but you won't necessarily realize it. If you...

    Underweight

They will tell you to drink Boost shakes at BCT if you they don't like your weight or weight changes at BCT

    Community Service and Leadership

Do more outside of scouts if your DS wants to explore other interests - pretty much the only reason. USAFA doesn't really care about service hours either so its about experiences that develop his leadership and demonstrate that he would be a good leader and teammate.

    Civil Air Patrol

I don't know for a fact, but I would be totally shocked if a CAP cadet got a higher stipend due to winning an award. Do prior preppies get paid more at Prep school? If so, then if you enlisted first, then went to prep school, you might end up getting more because of your pay grade by virtue of...

    Your son/daughter goes where???

Btw, my DS did not square any meals (assuming you mean moving the food from plate to mouth) last year. Maybe the new Com will re-institute them. I would say they dropped it to focus on making sure the cadets got good nutrition, but not sure how the chicken tendies and mac fit into that.

    Class of 2021 Fact Sheet

Shiner is correct as usual, though I would add that if you validate classes, you will be validating mostly core classes so your timetable is accelerated for getting into non-core classes. You still won't be hitting electives your first year, but you may be hitting some classes for your major by...

    chances + advice

Ditto to pretty much what has already been said. I will only add that you are going to be ranked and you get one shot each year. So you want the highest score and best ranking you can get. Test scores and GPA are a huge portion of your score so they are extremely important. I don't care about a...

    Running in boots is hard...

Agreed, but...to be fair, today's boots are like sneakers compared to what we had back in the day.... And yes, get off my lawn

    Retaking SAT?

By the way, if you do retake, evaluate your routine. Use a different study guide or video and you might pick up a tip or two that helps. Doing the same thing over and over will likely lead to similar results....and I'll save you the insanity quote.

Do I Still Have a Chance?

My DS high school had 3 kids all enter USAF the same year about 5 years ago. Our district is competitive so when there are additional nominations available, they often find there way here. Additionally, each MOC has up to 5 allocated to them which means in a given year, an MOC may have up to 20...

    Advice for class of 2025

Don't get injured prior to I-day. Keep your sense of humor during BCT and just remember it only lasts 6 weeks and the rest of your time at USAFA and certainly your time on Active Duty will be very different from BCT. Be yourself. Be a team player.

    USAFA vs DUKE Rotc?

To what @NavyHoops said, I strongly encourage everyone to apply for the USNA Summer STEM (this is for rising Juniors), USNA Summer Seminar and USAF Summer Seminars. My son did USNA STEM and USNA Seminar and did not get into USAFA SS. While it wasn't at USAFA, going to USNA showed him an Academy...

    Questions for People With LOAs

I echo what others have said. Its interesting if you look at the above both got LOAs, but two different AFROTC scholarship types while my DS did NOT get an LOA, but got a Type 1 AFROTC which is the uncapped one. I would think that kids who get LOAs would get Type 1 scholarships. After that, I...
