    QQ-Hospitalized during BCT

Got a surprise call from DS last night from Keller. He was hospitalized for strep and 'potentially" mononucleosis. Evidently on day 4 of a field training exercise he told the medic he couldn't swallow and therefor couldn't eat or drink. They did a CT scan to try to figure out why his...

Roster Size at USMA - any insights on how NCAA decisions are being applied?

All - I have a son who plays D1 baseball and my second DS is trying to walk on to the baseball team after BCT. I am aware of the extra year of eligibility and expanded roster sizes at other D1 programs. Does anyone have specifics for how USMA is thinking about roster sizes? Thanks

Looking for USNA memoirs or biographies that descibe experiences at USNA

Good Evening - The Unforgiving Minute is a terrific autobiography/memoir of Craig Mullaney's time at West Point and as an officer following graduation. Do you have any suggestions of comparable works describing USNA and life as a JO?

The day to day impact of SAF...

Perhaps the most persistent daily impact of my time reading SAF is my new obsession with returning shopping carts...can't remember the thread where it was actively discussed but I do the family shopping so the conversation looms large for me. Here's an interesting take on the issue I saw today...

Dropping AP Chem Spring Semester Senior Year?

DS is taking 8 classes this year. He informed us last night that he is considering dropping AP Chem because the course load plus baseball ramping up will be a lot. We cautioned against this, because of potential signals it may send and the fact that SAs ask for completed transcripts. His...

Quick Tip - Check the paperwork after physical exam

First - a huge thank you to @MullenLE and his team - in particular to one member of that team that I do not want to name, but if @MullenLE can pass along my thanks I would appreciate it. DS's paperwork leaving his physical exam was incomplete. Neither he nor I understood that we should...

Typical timeline - DODMETS to DODMERB to SA?

My search skills may not be up to par, bc I did not find an answer easily... What is the typical timing after medical and eye exams are completed and marked complete in DODMETS? How much time for DODMERB to accept and verify and then how much time for SA to receive that information? Thanks in...

DoDMETS Clinic isn't doing exams bc of Covid Testing?

The preferred clinic suggested by DoDMETS will not take appointments because they are only doing Covid testing and urgent care. Is this common? DS requested a new provider, but is concerned this may lead to a similar result because DODMETS might be unaware which clinics are open to exams and...

    Candidate Activity Record

DS is trying to get ahead as he waits for the portal to open up. Historically- is the CAR a form to be filled out, a document to upload or is it a set of pull down menus with areas to add comments? If it is a form or document to upload, is there a format that can be shared? Thanks

My DS is a HS junior who pitches. Long story short he was injured last year eventually diagnosed as micro-fractures of olecranon (bone bruising) in his right elbow. He had 2 MRIs last year - one at diagnosis and another months later to assess extent of healing. He has injured his arm again...

    CFA at CVW?

Good morning, DS received an invitation to the January CVW. As he filled out the forms to accept the final question was something like "Would you like to complete your CFA during the CVW"? Yes/no question. Based on reading relevant threads here it's difficult to figure out if this is common...

How does USNA identify juniors for CVW?

Apologies if there is a specific thread on this, but I couldn't find more than anecdotes. I am interested to learn if there are specific sources of information that are used by admissions to identify potential candidates for CVW for those in junior year? Standardized tests? Prior year STEM...

Is USMA more "liberal arts" than USNA?

My DS is a junior aspiring to be appointed to USNA. My typical approach when one of my kids is interested in something I know nothing about is to dive in and read everything I can, which is how I found this community. Everything I have read about USNA points to a very heavy STEM emphasis...

Good morning to all. We are starting down the road with our DS who is a junior who surprised us last May when he announced that he will be "going to the Naval Academy". Thankfully we found SAF and the wisdom accrued here over many years. While he is now fully aware of the need for Plans B-E...
