    Skipping BCT?

If a cadet were to out-process, could they enlist and skip BCT?

    More sock questions...

During Beast, you have an opportunity to send out laundry about once a week. You fill out a slip and put clothing in its designated bag (white or brown). A couple days later you’ll get your clothes back. Sometimes they lose items, but it is possible to get them back or be reimbursed. It’s...

    More sock questions...

In terms of quantity, I’d recommend about 10 pairs of each. The laundry system is sometimes unreliable and washing your sweaty clothes in the shower or sink isn’t enjoyable. My squad leader would sometimes wash some of our clothes for us in the barracks laundry rooms and even lent us some Tide.

    More sock questions...

For dress socks, I always wear Nike athletic socks. They’re soft, moisture wicking, and I hate how thin typical dress socks are. I always get hot spots wearing them. For boot socks, I’ve never had any problems with the standard issued socks. I spent about $70 on Fox River and typically...

    PenFed

‘24, Just a heads up that PenFed will more than likely come to speak to you one day in order to get your direct deposit set up (no way around that). They will also spend 15 minutes rambling about how great their credit cards are and that you should really apply for one. Please don’t. PenFed is...

    Height/Wt for USMA

Honestly, the tape test is a joke. I understand wanting your soldiers to look physically fit, but what matters most is performance. I’m not going to hate on a guy for barely passing a tape test if he’s a PT stud. Some people are just naturally large or have huge muscles. That’s no reason to DQ them.

    SLE just cancelled for 2020

CBT will definitely happen. It might be shortened though to allow time for COVID testing and possibly quarantine.

    Marijuana/Alcohol use before applying

Just answer everything honestly and you’ll be fine. It’s better to be honest than lie and be caught in the future. That’s grounds for an automatic DQ.

    Glasses/contacts

Glasses are covered by TRICARE (your insurance), but contacts are not. You’ll have to pay out of pocket for those. During Beast you’re not allowed to wear contacts, only the standard issue glasses. They’re not terrible, but I’d recommend getting new ones after Beast so you don’t look like “that guy.”

    Piano

There’s one on the top floor on the library as well as spread around different companies. 1st floor Sherman barracks has one. It’s always nice hearing people play.

    Weekend passes for Plebes?

My plebe year I used my 2 base passes, as well as 2 performance passes. One performance pass was earned by winning best Beast company. I’m not sure what everyone is talking about in terms of only being allowed to leave within a 50 mile radius. I went home on both 3 day weekends and I live nearly...

    USMA Cadet Privileges

All upperclassmen can have game systems, but Yuks are not allowed to play them during Evening Study Period (1930-2330). Some plebes I know brought theirs and played it without getting in trouble though. Depends on how close you are with the upperclassmen honestly. I always played games on my...

Do I need to get name tapes?

Definitely buy a few more nametapes. As well as U.S. Army and flags. They’re relatively cheap and you’ll more than likely lose a few during CBT.
