What has the AROTC done to my DD?

I think it's an awesome post and it just shows how true leaders step up and excel. It makes me think about all those soldiers, sailors and Marines that had to step up and perform during WWII. A great number of them didn't show up to boot camp as fighting machines.

    Admissions Applications increase

Probably has something to do with people thinking/hoping that Biden is eventually going to sign off on paying everybody student debt and everybody wants to get own the gravy train. Obviously this doesn't apply to the Academies but it would for Harvard, UNC, etc...

    Race / Gender?

I'm guessing there is some preferences given out but can't say for sure as it relates to handing out scholarships. I know from experience that when it comes to *branching*, it's absolutely a factor and it does a disservice to everyone involved.

    Nursing Army ROTC Commissioning Questions

I'm sure things change all the time but when my daughter graduated in 2014, about half her class went into the Reserves instead of AD. As stated above by Montana, the OML was essentially for where you get posted as they got to turn in a "wish list" prior to graduation. My daughter ended up at...

    Recommendations - Boots

Tons of great options out there. My kids love the early version of the Nike boot. My son later went to Rocky and then wore Danner's the whole time on active duty. I wore Danner's for nearly 30 years of law enforcement. Nothing but the soles ever wore out...

    Vanderbilt vs. Georgetown

This is overall great advice and a great place to watch the storied franchises of the hockey world like the Blackhawks and Bruins come to town and watch super heroes like Patrick Kane, Brad Marchand and essentially every starting Bruin what real hockey is all about. The Predators players like to...

    Scholarship activation

Interesting question as I know that all the "state" universities in CA such as San Diego State, Sacramento State, Chico State, etc...are all going online for the Fall semester from what I understand. I know SDSU has an AROTC component. If they students aren't going to school, how will they take...

    Accessions and branch detailing

Great post cb7893....my son in law has done something similar although I think he always knew he may be a lifer. He is in an assignment that has provided opportunities for training that included added commitments upon completion. On the last one, he had to commit to an add'l 5 years but he loves...

ranking the difficulty of getting each of the 17 army branches.

Well. I've been on this board almost 10 years and while I'm sure it's happened, I've never heard of anybody coming on here and wanting to branch Finance Corps as their 1st choice. While I'm sure the standard answer to your question is the rankings change yearly based on needs of the Army. That...

    Gift Ideas for Commissioning 2LT

How about a 2020 Ford Raptor. Preferably the Shelby edition. I know my son would have like that. :) Congratulations to your boyfriend!!

How will ROTC work with coronavirus and quarantine?

Hopefully by the time school starts up, this mess will be mostly behind us. If not, I can only assume it will be online but I don't know how they'll do teh 1fitness testing because you have to pass it for your scholarship to kick in. I'll leave it at that to avoid politics or hurting peoples...

Medically Disqualified and Moving on From Army ROTC

I'm sure you're going to get plenty of good advice from others but w/o knowing your major or what fields interest you. The Federal system is always in need of computer experts for a variety of fields. I have a co-worker who's daughter works in some double secret NSA type field. I have no idea...

    Nursing scholarship major change

Short version....your brother is correct that he can exit the program and not owe a dime after his freshman year. If he shows up fro day one of his sophomore year, he's on the hook to re-pay all the money that he or the school has been paid as part of his scholarship. It's also possible for his...

Anyone familiar with Boston U Army ROTC?

BU's campus is definitely different. Are they an affiliate school for another program? Maybe BC's? If so, you may be required to travel over there for some PT and/or outdoor lab activities. At least the T runs right by/to both campuses. I never made it to Boston until my 40's but now go at least...

    Army Nurse Corps

Honestly, I have no idea what the nurse situation is like there as far as "need" but it's just the way the military works. At first, I couldn't understand them turning down someone volunteering to stay, a person who has always received the highest possible evaluation scores and promotes first...

    Army Nurse Corps

My daughter recently exited the Army after her 4.5 year stint was up. She offered to stay in if they would send her to Germany where her Air Force husband was being shipped off to but the Army declined. Like Montana ROTC stated, I would absolutely look into colleges that have the "guaranteed"...

    Signal Corps BOLC dates....still waiting

Completely normal to not know your BOLC dates at this point. Neither of my kids were told until May. My daughter graduated in early May and received a phone call Memorial Day weekend telling her that her BOLC reporting date was July 1st and they also told her where she would be stationed at that...

What school should I accept my AROTC scholarship at?

Well, Harvard would be great just for the easy access to the North End in Boston which is my one of my favorite areas to eat in the USA. However, Harvard doesn't have a stellar reputation for their support of the military and all that it represents so it would actually be the first off my list...

    Important Question on Nursing ROTC

I know I'm late to the party and see that your DD has now chosen schools that all have a nursing program. That's great but like other said above, most schools don't really have a DIRECT path into the nursing program their junior & senior years. They more or less have to "compete" for open spots...
