Can you wear ROTC Awards at USMA?

No. Unless you're an ROTC CDT who earns a USMA specific award. See: ROTC CDT who attended USMA CFT, earned Recondo, then joined the class of 2027 a summer later after earning Recondo. I'm sure hilarity ensued when his Cadre realized he had Recondo without ever spending a day at USMA.

    GI Bill and Aviation

Wondering if anyone here can give some insight as to how the Service Academy ADSOs effect GI Bill eligibility. I understand that generally, you have 3 more AD years to serve receive 100% of the GI Bill - 8 AD years on a typical timeline. Is that rule with the 5 year commitment the same with the...

    electronic devices after plebe year

You just… bring them. It’s that simple. You can have them in your room. They are accounted for in room standards for inspections. There are also rooms in the basements of the barracks to store them after plebe year.

How do West Point grads use their degree?

Branching engineers at USMA is part of the typical branching process. Cadets with good class rank, leadership, etc. are desired more by any given branch, especially if they have talents that best fit that branch. You don’t need anything close to an engineering degree to be selected by the engineers.

    Psychology Major

Check the USMA Redbook. You can see just about everything about anything related to academics. You can learn about the psychology major, its requirements, what electives might interest you, etc… It’s far more insightful than the main West Point website. Not a psych major personally. But the...

Are SOEs the same as LORs?

SOEs are essentially a questionnaire/survey type form a teacher will fill out regarding you as a student/person in various aspects. A letter of recommendation is a letter as you already understand it.

AP Physics 1 or AP Macroeconomics?

I’m going to say that you cannot validate AP Physics 1 - it is algebra based physics. I don’t know off the top of my head what if any course can validate physics, but I would consider this. Not tracking AP Econ courses for validation either. However like others said it is still great prep for...

Does anyone know much about the Defense and Strategic Studies major?

If you want to know about DSS, go to westpoint.edu or google the “USMA Redbook”. Redbook has the actual curriculum, you can see every class and elective you will take in DSS. Definitely an interesting major. Lot of people called it “Don’t Study, Sleep” because it started out as a very easy...

    Dropping class after appointment

I would keep the Calc class, if you haven't dropped it yet - the prior Calc knowledge will be huge going into Calc I. I took AP Calculus AB last year and right now it's a lifesaver for my academics.

    USAFASS --> SLE?

If you can't change the dates for each session, I might recommend that you go to the summer program of the school you want to go to less to learn about it more. When I went to my summer programs, the admins were pretty flexible about moving your session around.

    I got a C in Pre-Calc, what now?

I had a C in Pre-Calc too. That didn’t stop me from getting SA appointments. Stay the course and improve other things in your control right now.

How to improve my mile time?

Try running cross country for this upcoming high school fall sport season. It should be no cut and I would bet my life savings you would improve your mile time. They will take you and make you a better runner no matter where you start from. And it can count as a sport you did in high school, so...

    AFROTC scholarship question

If you’re an academy cadet/midshipman who goes through Beast/BCT/Plebe Summer but is unable to join the rest of their class for their 4/C year, are you still able to utilize a AFROTC scholarship at a regular school? I have USMA in line and I’m just counting down the days until, but I also have...

    Minority Visitation Program

I attended the program. Message me if you’d like to talk about it. As mentioned in the above comment, you get invited to attend it. If you are able to go in the future, I would recommend it.

    ACT Writing

Your overall is better than mine, I got in with a 31 composite score. I got a 10/12 on writing which equates to a 30 on the 36 point scale. The 8/12 you got on writing translates to a 24 on the 36 point scale. Still, you should be fine with a 34 composite score. I would worry about other things...
