Summer options for NROTC college programmers?

Based on our DS's experience if you don't win it after freshman year chances go way down. Is the scholarship financially necessary for your family? If not and DS is dead set on serving I would strongly encourage looking into Marine Corps PLC. No ROTC overhead is a huge plus and Marine Corps...

    NROTC-MO Scholarship "Chances"?

Unless you really need the scholarship I would advise also looking at PLC - much looser grade reqs, nio major reqs, just need to kick butt on PFT and make the OSO really feel your desire to be a Marine. Virtually zero day to day overhead vs ROTC which is ike a full time job in addition to your...

    NROTC New Student Indoctrination

Based on what DS told me about when he did it he went from crying in his bunk the first night to mildly enjoying it by the end. Attitude is everything and it helps if you come in fit and able to run a 1st class PFT.

    PLC and NROTC sideload

I may be using the wrong term, but I thought PLC Seniors is when you get selected after Junior year and do 1 - 10 week OCS instead of 2 - 6 week sessions after Soph and Junior year.

    PLC and NROTC sideload

quick update: DS was selected for PLC Seniors. It has been a long road that started with NROTC as a CP. I appreciate all of the feedback from the posters here and will try to offer any information from our DS's journey that would be useful for others. As one of his recommendations said (a...

    NROTC-MO Change of Major

DS is competing for a PLC slot right now and is changing his major which will require an extra semester - OSO is cool with it, saying it might require some paperwork but as long as he graduates by the end of that extra semester he'll be fine.

    Texas A&M and PLC

One great thing about PLC is no commitments other than regular PT with the OSO and your own personal discipline to work out at the level needed to get close to or hit a 300 PFT. Impressing the OSO with your performance and behavior are the most critical items to focus on.

    Marijuana use

I don't disagree at all but today it's a violation for any officer program punishable by disenrollment, and lying about it reflects a lack of the character needed to lead in the US armed forces. If they legalize it and adjust the wiz quiz then light 'em up.

    Marijuana use

I have a very different take: DS would like to party and try MJ but he knows that would jeopardize his career and his NO to the drug use questions reflects his integrity and self control. What you did shows zero integrity and you should be ready for those ramifications as you tried to have your...

    NROTC Scholarship chances

Thanks. He learned his lesson. Amazing how the maturity curve accelerates after some adversity.

    NROTC Scholarship chances

Having a DS who went the NROTC programmer route and basically spent 3 semesters shouldering a huge NROTC workload/daily PT + CSCI major and was ultimately booted for sub 3.0 grades and behavior (nothing serious - making off color remarks at an offical event) who has now passed his PLC PFT and is...

    PLC and NROTC sideload

update: DS had a successful academic summer and got some work experience. While he worked out heavily with weights and pullups he experienced persistent leg stiffness that has plagued him for years which deterred him from running. After getting him cleared by an othopedic surgeon and confirming...

    NROTC - MO

If your kid is interested in the Marines I suggest looking at PLC. You may miss out on the scholarship but can actually have a real life in college without the NROTC grade pressure and array of ROTC-specific responsibilities.

    PLC and NROTC sideload

Short update: DS had an academic hiccup that yielded a semster gpa <2.0 which prevented him from board consideration for PLC Juniors. The OSO told him to do well in summer school and keep up with PT and there could be a chance for the Aug board. He's doing well in his 2 summer classes and...

    PLC and NROTC sideload

I've impressed upon him how proud we are of that accomplishment regardless of the May board outcome. The fitness fire has been lit, around the same time in life it lit for me, and i'm thrilled for him.

    PLC and NROTC sideload

DS dropped his 3 mile time by >3 mins in a month to get to a First Class score. The Lt leading the PLC candidates has provided an excellent training program, much more comprehensive and effective than anything he experirenced in 3 semesters as an NROTC college programmer. He's training 6...

    PLC and NROTC sideload

DS passed his PLC PFT so his package for the May board is complete and he is scheduled for contracting paperwork this Thur. He asked the Lt he's been training with what else he can do to improve his standing ahead of the board and his reply was to keep showing up and doing what he's been doing...

Cheapest Cost University or College per ROTC Branch

From what I understand University of Oklahoma offers in state tuition for college programmers. I have some xperience with the school and while it's not a top Big 10/Pac 12 school academics-wise it's in the class of Kansas, easier to maintain grades. Ironically Kansas is considered the "cool...

    PLC and NROTC sideload

Great advice! He just did MEPS this week and is finalizing everything for an upcoming board. While getting disenrolled from NROTC was tough medicine what he got out of those 3 semesters has made him a better student and helped him grow enough for an OSO to want to endorse him.
