    Candidacy

The candidate number to log in to CIS. Those who applied to NASS don't need to do the prelim. Took me three weeks to get mine.

    Whoops..... McChrystal recalled to DC

You do something so enormously stupid as what McChrystal did, you expect to get canned. Nothing surprising about it.

    Starting a school club?

Talk to the principal. That said, the chances of them letting an airsoft team fly are very small. Liability + guns. Alone, they both would slam the door. Together, yeah...

Women on subs now in effect as of 1 May 10

Could still draft women in the support roles, freeing males in that category for infantry, etc.

    DADT repeal vote

Matter of necessity. One can say how they feel about the issue, but if the administration believes it ought to be overturned, there is a finite window for that to happen. I tend to agree with the decision, but that's another topic :P Related issue...

    Al-Qaeda and journalism

Global doesn't mean its not interested in protecting their homeland. The US Military is a global force, for example.

    Candidate Number

Anyone know how long it takes to receive a candidate number? I submitted the preliminary about three weeks ago, and no letter yet. Not in a hurry, but wondering if I should place a call just to check. Received a call from my BGO that day saying I'd been assigned as a candidate.

National Leadership Forum on National Security

From what my Guidance Counselor told me, "It won't neccesarily hurt, but it definitely wont help" were her words. Mileage may vary, of course. From my view, if you've got the money and nothin going, it would be cool. Wouldn't classify it as leadership though.

    Air Force Jobs and Majors

Seeing as though UAS go to UPT first, am I to take the vision requirements to be identical for UAVs as they are for manned?

    SLS or state meet???????

I'd say state meet first and foremost. SLS isn't a requirement by any means. Also, how do you think USMA interprets ditching a team in the state meet? I'd call them to let them know and see if they can slide you in another session. If not, I'd go with the meet but ultimately your decision.

    USNA v. NROTC

From what I've read here and elsewhere, it seems USNA tends to have stricter vision requirements than USMA/USAFA for whatever reason. Is this USNA-specific or does it also extend to NROTC? Thanks in advance.

Secretary Gates says Navy Might Not Need 11 Carrier Groups

Reducing a single carrier hardly eliminates a blue water navy. It just reduces our blue water naval capability from 10x to 9x the rest of the planet.

    Several Questions!! Help!

Don't know how competitive your FB Program is, but just keep in mind the raw talent of Navy. Its no Alabama, but its recruiting classes are usually 80-100th in the country. Ricky Dobbs had a WR Offer from GTech. Vinnie Mauro had an offer from Wisconsin, etc. Its a fringe Top 25 team, and their...

Given the fact that not a single person here knows what happened including details, we ought to reserve judgment IMO.

Secretary Gates says Navy Might Not Need 11 Carrier Groups

I laughed. Hard. As for the question on the carriers, there is no one in better position to make that determination than Gates and his employees. Its a valid point when you look at the Naval position of the US verse everyone else and try to justify that we can't afford to lose one.

    military or not?

As said, if your ultimate goal is to become a doctor you're best options are likely in civilian or other military routes. From what I understand, medical slots are both very limited and very competitive. Also, bear in mind that you take the Oath of Office years before any Hippocratic Oath. If...

How am I looking for the class of 2015 and what I need help with?

I think Kve meant it was class rank that mattered anyway with regard to the GPA. From what I understand, USNA would rather you had a 2.8 and ranked first than a 3.7 and ranked 50 percentile, as GPAs and grade inflation varies dramatically from school to school.
