Hows the boxing gym at West Point?

Worth noting regarding previous experience is that the National College Boxing Association, which USMA competes under, does not allow competitors who have already had more than 10 bouts before college (for very real safety concerns regarding high school boxing). So, for one thing, be careful...

    2028 State Nominations Thread

I got an email from Richard Moxley at Budd’s office on Thursday saying that nominations should be submitted by the end of this week… nothing further heard from them. NC-14 nominations went into USMA and USAFA portals on Thursday as well, unsure about Navy or MMA. Congressman Jackson made calls...

    DH versus DW😬

My Senator’s office specified that “JROTC or Civil Air Patrol uniforms are acceptable” (otherwise, attire was business). However, given that it said “acceptable,” rather than “encouraged,” one could probably get away with either. I’ve also read that opinions often vary between offices/staffers...

Is there an official rebuttal form?

A current USMA ‘24 cadet I know told me that after his waiver was denied, he dug into the regulations and found some clause that allowed him to appeal the decision. Don’t remember the details but he told me that none of the admissions people had ever heard of it. Could be a similar case.

    Acceptable CFA Score?

Definite no-go. Chest can’t touch the ground and hands can’t come off the ground (as cczjz mentioned). Also, most people can probably get more CFA-standard pushups in two minutes than HRPs, so I’d be dubious as to the benefit.

    Acceptable CFA Score?

The overall application deadline is January 31st. The CFA CANNOT be submitted after that— no exceptions. Nominating authorities or an LOA (if received) may have earlier deadlines, but barring either of those she should be able to take it again until that deadline. For now, I’d say the best thing...

    CFA Pass?

I passed with the same BB and a slower shuttle. Everything else is above or close to the average, so I expect you’re good. Here’s to PT together at Beast!

    A Couple CFA Questions…

One general recommendation: on the shuttle run, figure out where you’ll be taking it and test a variety of surfaces around there. I did mine at my school track and slipped a ton, but found that concrete was a lot better for it when I was helping a friend train later on. Also, definitely get...

    Field Force Interview

I had always had the impression that it was a required part of the application, but after looking around I believe you might be right. Only reference I’ve found to it was in region-specific communication (SE)… nothing in the Instructions for Candidates either.

    CFA Status Display

Yes, I submitted both videos and they instantly received green check marks in the portal. I'm just trying to figure out whether my CFA scores have actually been submitted to USMA and are awaiting review, or if they haven't been submitted at all. Here's a screenshot from my portal for reference:

    CFA Status Display

Does anybody know how the CFA status is displayed in the portal? I took it on Monday and my administrator told me that he submitted it yesterday, but the portal is still displaying an X beside it and says "CFA Status: REQUIRED." Does that mean admissions has yet to review my score, or does it...

    CFA tips and tricks

The basketball throw gave me no end of trouble and stress until I finally got the technique down (added ten feet just by locking my arm out fully). Read this post CAREFULLY, follow all of the directions on there, and try to practice it before/after each workout. Since it’s the first event, you...

    Need help with the CFA

To clarify my point: like jbm2m, I received an LOA with this specific wording: “You must send the Admissions Office your Candidate Fitness Assessment (CA) results … by October 15, 2023 or this letter of assurance will be withdrawn.” I assumed that the same condition would be included for any...

    Need help with the CFA

With respect to waiting to take the assessment... I'd throw out that some nominating authorities require CFA scores (my own Senator Budd of NC, for instance) and, based on speaking with current cadets, nomination boards like to see scores on file as it indicates initiative and physical fitness...

Is this a letter of encouragement?

You as well. Here’s hoping we’ll be getting yelled at by cadre this time next year!

Is this a letter of encouragement?

Based on what I’ve read, LOEs have the specific wording of “letter of encouragement” somewhere in the body text. I believe they’re also usually issued through the portal, rather than through email (unsure how you got yours). I got a similar email from admissionsse@westpoint.edu on the 16th and...

    Looking for a watch

CANNOT recommend the Expedition Scout enough, with one caveat... Try to find the slightly older model, which has an all-fabric strap (no leather). I had one of those for two and a half years and it took all sorts of punishment while working great (with the exception of the date and the...

Can a NJROTC instructor perform the AROTC PT test?

Don’t have it in front of me right now, but the AROTC application says something along the lines of “any non-family adult who is familiar with proper exercise form may administer the test.” Should be fine unless they’re related to the candidate.

    CFA recordings

When I was visiting USMA I asked about CFAs at NASS... an admissions officer told me that they couldn't accept scores from there. I know that's counter to what's been stated on the forum and other online sources many times, but that could be a part of it.

Can I get into USMA with these stats?

Not necessarily... I'd say a healthy body composition is more important than any arbitrary weight number, especially given that waivers for weight are apparently fairly easy to come by if you have an acceptable body fat percentage. Per AR 600-9, weight standards by height are merely to expedite...
