Why are academically qualified candidates receiving Falcon Foundation Scholarships?

Wow. Interesting thread. I, too, mentored a strong candidate who received a FFS. Top grades, PPL, CAP, USAFA grad parents, etc. He did everything right. But there are only so many appointments available. I suspect that the fact he was in an on-line school all 4 years of high school probably...

Okay, so what's going on with the cadet chapel AKA The Cube?

According to the Association of Graduates, each crest must contain the following USAFA symbols: the Polaris Star the class year a saber a falcon the graduating class number class motto This link has a picture of each crest since 1975 ...

    Question for current USAFA cadets

I agree with Mach01. That being said, it is my understanding that cadets are not allowed to use their issued laptops for streaming, gaming, etc (ie: non official use). Some will bring their own laptops (Mac or PC) later in the year. They will not be allowed to connect to the .mil network & need...

Okay, so what's going on with the cadet chapel AKA The Cube?

I like how 2024 handled their class painting. This is part of it -- their representation of the chapel

Okay, so what's going on with the cadet chapel AKA The Cube?

My daughter is a 2018 grad. They had "the crane" all 4 years (repairs to the chapel). They made the best of that eye sore by writing verses. Ie: Lifts 12:1 And ye shall ...<don't remember, but you get the gist> Anyway, the class incorporated the crane into their class crest. Why not? It was...

    Death of a Grandparent

Yes, you can get leave to attend funerals of close family members. I know many cadets who have had to do this.

Okay, so what's going on with the cadet chapel AKA The Cube?

I agree. Not what I was told a couple of years ago regarding the big box, but it makes sense to protect it from the weather.

Okay, so what's going on with the cadet chapel AKA The Cube?

Its my understanding that when they started the renovations, they did not realize how much asbestos was in the walls. So up went the big box to protect the cadets. That added quite a bit of remediation work and extended the work to 2027...

    Summer seminar cost

Check with Groome. They are in the process of having a stop at USAFA! They claimed it would start this summer -- but I don't have the exact date.

    Too late to for 2028?

Honestly, no one knows what admissions is thinking except the people in admissions. We tell EVERYONE to have a strong plan B regardless of where they are in the process.

Please help my DS decide which Falcon Scholarship school.

I'm pretty sure that your son will be notified by the AOG about a virtual call which will go through all of the options. I recommend he watch that before making any decisions.

Looks like an uptick in the number of parents joining the 2028 Parent Group

Indeed. There are always groups that will complain about things that seem silly, but we do not judge. The stress is real for parents, so the goal is to help calm fears, inform, and support. That is perfect for some and not so much for others. You have to remember that the vast majority of...

Looks like an uptick in the number of parents joining the 2028 Parent Group

Depends what you're looking for. I read both. They each have their purposes and are not at cross purposes. The FB pages is more of a parent support page. Not for cadets, candidates, nor appointees.

Looks like an uptick in the number of parents joining the 2028 Parent Group

I am an admin for the Parent Facebook group, yes. We have several requests in queue. More than in previous weeks. There's always a lag. I have approved 4 today with more in queue -- 8 in the last hour. We vet every single join request & that takes a little time. I am not saying for sure that...

Looks like an uptick in the number of parents joining the 2028 Parent Group

That indicates a larger number of appointments this week. Parents/Guardians - you can join the group by searching for usafa2028parents on Facebook. This is a support group for parents/guardians only. No cadets. No girl/boyfriends. No sibling, aunts, uncles, etc. Parents/guardians only. NOTE...

    Appointee tours

What was cancelled were the activities leading up to the prop&wings ceremony where the 4 degs are "recognized". So, Recognition itself wasn't cancelled, just the activities (sort of a mini-BCT) Ultimately, the 2.5 days of mini-BCT is more tradition than a requirement. So, I can see the...

    I-Day & BCT Questions Answered

200 is a very large number. I'm not sure it was that many, but I agree. If you decide to decline, then officially decline it so someone else can get the appointment. Having said that, service academies do take into consideration the number that don't show up and appoint more than "the max."
