C/O 2028 Wait List: The Wait Listed Bunch

DS was a 2026 waitlister who received an appointment on May 17th. I agree with LA rockymnt hi that '26 seemed to have a high number of applicants come off the waitlist. We were never given a reason as to why that happened. Not gonna lie--April 15th to May 16th was rough! We paid (and lost) a...

    April 15th

Just for reference, 2026 DS was notified of his waitlist status on April 15th. Thus began a very long month, in what Capt MJ calls, the "WaitList Dungeon". He received his Conditional Offer of Appointment (weight waiver) on May 13th. Full Appointment on May 17th.

    Body Fat Composition Form

My 2026 DS also received a conditional offer of appointment dependent on a Body Fat Composition form. If you are still in high school, ask the school nurse if she will fill out the form and sign it for you. That is what DS did and it was acceptable to USNA.

How to take approved items to I-Day

I remember my plebe was super nervous to bring extra underwear because it wasn't specifically mentioned on the PTR list--compression shorts were listed, but not extra underwear. He didn't know if wearing the white cotton underwear, while being drenched with sweat, was a requirement for part of...

    Weight Requirements

DS is Class of 2026 at USNA, but he had to do weight waivers for both USAFA and USNA. He had a very large athletic build at 6'5" 260 pounds at the time he entered USNA. I just thought I would mention how during my son's application process, the SAs handled the body composition form differently...

    Sports

My plebe has a roommate/good friend that is a member of the SOT team (his older brother is already a SEAL). He does not participate in another sport as SOT is very intense and time consuming. I also get the impression that SOT counts for a sport during plebe summer. I don't see how someone...

USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

My DS did have a slightly similar situation and from what I understand it is, unusual... He wanted to attend USAFA or USNA and play football there. DS was young for his grade in school (started at USNA at 17 years old) and was a late bloomer physically. He wasn't really noticed by college...

USNA Class of 2027 Waitlist: Team Hopeful

DS in the Class of 2026 was pulled from the WaitList on May 17th. DS learned of his Offer of Appointment via the portal. He did NOT ever get a phone call from our Representative who gave him the nomination. He did get a congratulatory letter a couple of months later.

Post-Appointment Class of 2027 Hangout: PTR, I-Day, What To Bring, Leave Periods…all that endless new stuff

Definitely reach out to the airline once he has his PTR. Some airlines seem to understand the military is even less flexible than they are! SWA (who is known to be friendly toward military) recently changed our DS’s ticket at no cost when he needed to report back to the Academy sooner than...

    Plebe Summer CO 27' (2023)

My current plebe would say FRIENDSHIPS are key to a successful PS. Our DS related to us that the first week of PS he just had an attitude of "I'm big, tough, strong, and I don't need anyone to help me through this. I can do this on my own." The detailers would shout out that his company mates...

    I-Day

I think the answer depends on where you are from, and how much previous experience you have in the Annapolis or DC area? Our family lives on the West Coast and due to the cost of flights, none of us (including my DS) had been to Annapolis before I-Day. We were also non-military and pretty...

    Scholarships for Mids

My DS is a plebe who earned several outside scholarships that could be applied to his ACE loan. DS paycheck is still $125/mo even though he has scholarships to help pay for the ACE loan--meaning that all the deductions taken out of Plebe paychecks are still taken out of his too. Our...

    Advice for Choosing a Major

DS is a Plebe. He was pretty certain when he left for USNA that he would be a NUC E major--he has had a huge interest in that for years and was the initial reason he looked into the SAs. After talking with his academic advisors and some engineering professors, he is instead leaning heavily...

    Multi-Sport Recruit

My DS plays football at USNA. After participating in different sporting events over Plebe Summer both the swimming and track coach offered him walk-on spots, but once they found out he played football they all knew it wasn't really a realistic option. I do know at least two football players who...

    Thoughts on USNA SAT Scores

My DS is currently a Plebe. There are SO many pieces to the admissions puzzle that it is impossible to say "what is good enough?" What I can tell you, is my DS and your DS have a very similar/almost identical academic profile. He was not class president, but was a Varsity athlete captain...

    DoDMERB Weight

My DS was 6'5 260 pounds at the time of his DODMERB. This was about 50 pounds over the allowed weight. He had a rather muscular build so he was within the body fat parameters, but the DODMERB doesn't take any body composition calculations, just height and weight. It was interesting to see how...

    Weight Loss

When my DS completed the DoDMERB he was about 50 pounds over the weight limit for his height. He was not obese, but athletic and had a muscular build. However, no body fat measurements were taken during the exam, so there was no way for the Service Academies to know his body composition, only...

    USNA Class of 2026 Waitlist

DS portal changed from "Wait List" to "Conditional Offer-LOA" on Friday. The offer was conditional upon submitting a body composition form since he is outside the normal weight limits. He submitted that form yesterday, his portal was already updated by this morning, and he accepted his...
