A coach can't personally give you an LOA, however they can speak to admissions on your behalf. There are athletes and non-athletes who receive LOA's. Also, not many LOA's are given out AND it does not guarantee admission.

Just went to my daughter's USNA sporting event this weekend. We drove 6 hours each way and spent a total of 20 minutes with her, but loved watching her compete!

I would think the weekend before would be good, as that is the Navy/ND game in Ireland...they will not have classes Friday. But, as always, your plebe will know best and will not know much until after reform. Remember, a lot depends on duty schedules, too.
