    Advice needed

After 30 years, our dentist still regrets turning down a prep school offer to USAFA. He says that every single time we see him. He thought it was beneath him to not be a direct admit and now lives with the regret and what ifs.

    Standards in Free Fall

From the feedback here, some cadets seem to indicate that they are being shut down and worried about losing commissioning. I don't think the cadets are complaining without purpose. I think they're trying to inform and rally allies such as the grad community after haven given up on other approaches.

    Standards in Free Fall

But what do you think about a system that sometimes and seemingly radically changes every two years? Incremental change would create a much more stable transition. i.e. Last year's recognition seemed to be a rigorous, cadet-led, traditional experience. This year the academy published pictures of...

    2024 Appointee Visit

Parents don't have to attend. You'd have to plan the logistics for the cadet. i.e. Make sure the hotel they stay at accepts 18 year olds if they stay and sort out transportation. It is fun for parents, though.

Questions about BCT Dates and when parents can visit the cadets after BCT

Congratulations! It's a very special day. My advice is to book accommodations for Parents Weekend now, actually, especially if you want AirBnB. It's a busy weekend and there is usually a Balloon Festival at Memorial Park. And dinner reservations at least one month ahead.

Questions about BCT Dates and when parents can visit the cadets after BCT

You'll have about two hours to see your cadet on A-day. Usually parents bring lunch to the Academy. At least in the past, this is how it was done. Who knows if they'll change it.

    I can't stand this forum

I found OP's post to be very disrespectful to the people who post here, especially since many here volunteer for and support USAFA and the cadets with both time and money and are veterans themselves. You can always just block people that you don't agree with.

    High School Junior

No retake for a 35. Only possibly if he were an Ivy, MIT, Stanford... And then I'd suggest trying the SAT especially with the new format.

    A move to Colorado Springs

Only you know your family. We had two kids who went to a local university (25 minutes away), and we rarely had visits or phone calls. Being close made it not urgent. We see and hear from the kid that is far away at USAFA, more than we did the local ones. Being far away, we make seeing or hearing...

Obligatory what are my chances post

Actually, OP,, if you are considering reapplying to USAFA next year, take the SAT this spring. With the new online format, you may do much better. Make sure that you are comfortable with Desmos. If you can get a higher score, that is the one that will count next cycle. (Or even if one...

    Danner - Tachyon v Rivot

I think many cadets use the bricks for the water/wet parts of BCT.

    Danner - Tachyon v Rivot

I think the lighter boot (Tachyon) is more comfortable for the academy. If they were deployed the Rivot would probably be the better option since it is more rugged with better ankle support. Rivot is also a warmer boot. But test them out and order several sizes for the best fit.

Question about packing list and boots?

I would stick to the packing list as closely as possible, but 4 or 5 pairs of compression shorts (DS did not bring them but the girls do use them). I'm pretty sure that sunscreen is issued. Sending some stamps is also good because they sometimes run out at the store. Also, check out Danner for...

Waning enthusiasm for USAFA - advice?

Regarding the commitment, the reality of life is that after college you commit to working. If you go to USAFA, ror five years, you're job will be in the Air Force or Space Force.
