    A Day packing

I am packing for Aday, and I am hoping I won’t have to return home for anything, even on breaks. Are there any suggestions of what to pack? Certain civilian clothes I might need in the coming years?

    Memorable saf moments

A few things i thought were cool. CaptMJ surpassed kinnem in posts a couple days ago, this is from just now though. Doesn’t show the exact moment of surpassing. If anyone has it that would be cooler

    Letter of rec from FFR?

Would it be appropriate to ask my FFR for a letter of recommendation for the nominations? I’m trying to make a balanced set of recommendations, and so far I have one from my high school program coordinator, and hs gymnastics coach. None of my teachers have gotten back to me… probably because I...

    Pets

Is there enough time with ROTC to take care of a dog? I am aware of the service requirement after college, so my next question is, is there enough time when you’re serving AD to take care of a dog?

Why is the navy army game so big, but the Air Force doesn’t have any big games like that

Should I do the 4 year ROTC scholarship application if I do not want a scholarship?

I have mentioned before that I don’t think I need an ROTC scholarship, and don’t want to take that money that could be going to someone else. However, I received an email that says I should apply for a 4 year ROTC scholarship from goarmy.org, and I feel like just submitting an application would...

Vacancy unavailable, but trying to get one?

I just got an email from someone working for my congresswoman, and he said as of right now there is no vacancy for our district, so our congresswoman won’t be able to nominate anyone. However, he then goes on to say that they are trying to get a vacancy with West Point… does anyone have any idea...

    Army Max Age

Also, I searched and saw that 35 is the max. age you can work in the army. Is that for the more physical jobs? That’s younger than I thought. Aren’t some lieutenants and colonels fairly old, or is that just the movies?

    Service requirement

I understand the service requirement after graduating is 5 years AD and 3 more years in reserves; however, if you choose to serve more years in AD (like 10 or something), would the 3 years in reserves still be added on to the end of that? Just curious.

    Medical record?

For the DoDMERB medical visit, it asks you to bring copies of your medical record. I’m sorry for asking such a seemingly obvious question, but what does this mean? Like, my whole medical record? From when I was born? Should I ask my family doctor? I’ve only been at my family doctor for a couple...

Do you have to know exactly what you want to do after graduating?

Should you know exactly what branch you want to go into after graduating when you go in to interviews? I saw on YouTube a guy posted saying it’s a red flag if you don’t know what you want to do after graduation, but it’s still early so don’t a lot of people not know what they want to do? I know...

    LOA and DoDMERB Waiver

The Academies decide whether or not they approve a DoDMERB waiver, right? Does this mean if you receive an LOA, your waiver will have higher chances of getting approved (of course depending on the condition…), or do LOA’s only get distributed to people who have passed the DoDMERB.

What cadets do you stay with on an overnight stay?

For the overnight stay, do only upperclassmen host you or can 3rd and 4th classmen host you as well? Also, I'm assuming it would be with someone of the same gender?

Why do you have to be unmarried?

This is just a question out of curiosity, but why do you have to be unmarried at time of appointment to attend West Point? Don't people get married while they're already there?

    Candidate Statement submission problems

Whenever I save my Candidate Statements, it gets rid of quotation marks, however, one of my essays goes through a bit of dialogue which requires quite a few quotation marks...Should I just use apostrophes or maybe reword it so instead of she said, "jfkdls" I would write, she told me jfkdlsj.

Can you be in ROTC without a scholarship?

I am kind of confused how ROTC works because ppl only ask if you’re applying for an ROTC scholarship, but I feel it would be unnecessary to apply for the “scholarship” part. Do you have to apply for an ROTC scholarship to apply to ROTC?

    USMA Environment

How “corrupt” is the majority of USMA? As in like drugs, alcohol, intercourse, etc. I know there’s probably groups of more corrupt and less corrupt cadets, but as a whole would you say it’s pretty corrupt or not too corrupt.

Are overnight visits only for candidates who are admitted? This would mean they happen later in the year right?

    Being “Qualified”

I was looking at the class profile for 2026, and I saw that roughly half of the ppl nominated were “qualified”. Does this mean like medically, physically, and academically qualified? Because that’s a lot less than I would expect.

    Reasons for privacy

I just had a thought; is one reason privacy and anonymity is emphasized on this forum because enemies could search for information on ppl here?
