    EA Questions

My understanding from the conference calls was that the deadline was a soft start of the reviews. From that you had 2 weeks for recommendations to trickle in before they really reviewed them. There seems to be no unlocking on the forums of why the early ones were already appointed - perhaps...

    Community college courses?

I read your whole post and some of your other posts and I had to remind myself that you're still in HS. Compared to some other posters, you certainly seem able to compose your thoughts. You'll have no issue writing the essays I'm sure. You asked for person to person advice. Sometimes you...

How can I stand out more on an application

Sold them to the CGA or sold the CGA on your kid? In the spring I was told by the CGA officer who answered the call that it's harder to get into AIM than the actual Academy. My DS was turned down for AIM, but his buddy down the street did go. Buddy isn't applying (but for other reasons)...

    Any EA denials?

I'm guessing that "absolute no's" don't hear until the very end. In some of the conference calls, they described folks that have included the USNA or USAFA essay in with their application. Oops. I'm sure other folks apply and are not even in the competitive range. I saw something like 3,000...

    Any EA denials?

This is a pretty good post from this morning: https://www.serviceacademyforums.com/index.php?threads/ea-question.88612/#post-922878 Of those that have already been accepted, and communicated with, I wonder what the differentiating factor is? Two weeks ago it seemed to be folks that had been...

    EA question

"Back in my day" you'd send off your application to any of the few colleges you'd heard of and hope for the best. Weeks later, when you'd sort of forgotten you'd get a thick envelope waiting for you after school. (No way was *I* competitive for any of the SAs - nor suited for it). These...

    EA question

I did some digging on the forum for prior stats about acceptance. It appears to me that a good number of the class was made up from the EA applicants. The bulk of RA appointments seemed to come from the CGAS folks, which doesn't leave a ton of spots for "regular" RA.

    Any appointments yet?

Great information thanks. I've also seen a lot of good input by the upcoming cadets. I have helped him manage the tours and application process and I think were ahead of some of his peers. We stopped by VMI and he determined that was not for him. (For some good and some trivial reasons)...

    Any appointments yet?

Yes, good point and we knew that as well.

    Any appointments yet?

Interesting facts about acceptance from CGAS in the regular pool. On the tour in early Oct, we asked the tour guide about EA and she had differing views on applying EA based on advice she was given. DS was well along his application packages at that point (after a lot of pressure from dad)...

    Any appointments yet?

It *seems* a lot of the early announcements last week were tied to a coach or sports team. I'm wondering of those were prioritized further amongst the EA applications. My son got his application in on 10/10 but didn't have the connections with a coach like others do. Every dad believes...

    Any appointments yet?

That's the application page. The check was probably there since he submitted. The Bears Den has other check marks in the lower right corner. My son received an email a couple weeks ago that his application would be reviewed in the next two weeks. The CEEB check box is not yet checked.

    Admissions Officer Communication

I'm not an expert either, but on the tour we took not everyone comes from a military family. The tour guides did not. All of these SAs advertise, so they are looking for dedicated young people to come into military service. Not everyone already has that in their background. Including my...

    Accepted but undecided - why?

Yeah, this is a good bit of reason why we nudged him to apply - what do you want to do after school? What do you want to study? We spent a lot of time over the last year on various tours, visits, career exploration (the best you can while working). Ruled some stuff out, ruled many schools...

    Accepted but undecided - why?

Thanks. He's a D3 athlete only looking at D3 schools, so he has his head on correctly therew where sports fit into the college life. The schools he's looking at are all tiny (about the size of the USCGA). As the son of two civilian civil servants, we explained to him what post college life...

    Accepted but undecided - why?

Thanks. I wasn't implying that someone else accepting or not affected the next person. I was trying to get a sense of how the young people think. My DS is all over the place in his thinking....location/sports/cost. He's a double varsity athlete and was accepted to an expensive school...

    Accepted but undecided - why?

It is! Appreciate the insight. Congrats to him. Mine only applied to USCGA and some other schools to which he's already been accepted.

    Accepted but undecided - why?

Happy Thanksgiving! I am following the thread on acceptances and noted a many of the folks accepted (even with EA!) are still undecided. I was curious as to why and didn't want to junk up the thread. (I tried PMing but can't as a new member -- I think you can PM me). Anyone care to share...
