    Majors at West Point

I'm currently a plebe. If there's one thing they stress here, it's to choose what you love most for your major. You get to put in preferences for branch choice, and for your post, but the one thing you get to choose is your major. I won't declare until next year, but I've been advised to choose...

Chances of getting accepted into West Point

I just wanted to post something here, because I remember how stressful applying was and I remember what helped me when I thought I hadn't done enough, when I thought I wouldn't have a shot, when I thought I should give up. Someone told me that it doesn't matter what you've done in the past, all...

    Thank you

Thanks to everyone on this forum for all the help over the past few years. I'm not exaggerating when I say you guys are a huge reason for why I was able to see it through to the end. To anyone applying for 2017 or beyond, I only have one piece of advice. On these forums, you will hear again and...

    Boys State

I couldn't go to SLS because of a school conflict (aka a teacher said she wouldn't give me any opportunities to make up work if i missed that week of school, which would have destroyed my grade.) I did, however, go to Boys State. I'm not sure what you're interested in, but I've had to do a lot...

    Book recommendations?

It's not about west point directly, but if you've got a good amount of spare time, Once an Eagle is probably the best book I've ever read.

Am I making the right choice?

Well, I just got a call today from one of my top ROTC schools, and they spent about 30 minutes on the phone telling me all the reasons I should go to their school instead of West Point. The issue is, they had some points. The one thing that's worried me about West Point is the lack of time for...

    Middle School

The academies only look at achievements and grades from 9th-12th grades, but what you do in middle school sets you up for what you do in high school, and its never too early to start preparing. But don't forget to enjoy high school, because I've got 4 months left til I'm done and nowhere near...

Will my ACT/SAT scores balance out my low GPA?

Doesn't West Point Admissions recalculate your GPA too based on their own formula?

    Quick question about the essays

The character count doesn't include spaces (I checked before I wrote mine). And on Word, under word count it tells you how many characters with spaces and without spaces, so just look at the without spaces one.

Good Time to start on the Class of 2017 Application?

I stayed up til midnight the day the application opened for the summer seminar. Stayed up til 3am, and it still didn't show up so I gave up and fell asleep and when I woke up and went to school the next morning (first period=free period), I saw that it was up so I applied. I think that was in...

    Nomination/LOA

Ok thanks. I don't think BigNick's first answer applies to my situation though, because my MOC doesn't declare a principle nominee, so the admissions office decides who gets the vacancy. As far as I know at least.

    Nomination/LOA

I've read posts alluding to this before, but I feel like I should just ask it outright if I want a completely straight answer. On a MOC's unranked slate of nominees, can the vacancy winner be one with an LOA? Or do nominees with an LOA not recieve the vacancy, because all they need is a...

    Interview/review board deadline

I can't tell you how much I appreciate this information. What I don't understand is how it says I should have received a letter giving me instructions for setting up an interview; as far as I know I never received that letter, and the only reason I found out about the interview at all was what I...

    Interview/review board deadline

It just occurred to me that "school of your choice" could mean "school closest to you", not "number 1 school choice". My bad. That's probably something I should have figured out/thought of/planned out before the holidays, when chances are the interviewers are home...

    Interview/review board deadline

I assumed the interview was through the school of choice, because on the application status system website it said "You have been selected for an interview. Please contact the Professor of Military Science at the school of your choice." But then again I guess I could have misread that, seeing as...

    Interview/review board deadline

For the army rotc 4-year scholarship application, do I need to have an interview by the december 31st review board deadline in order to meet that deadline, or do I just need to contact my first choice school by then?

    Summer Leadership Seminar question

Well my school said I could go and then one of my teachers told me she wouldn't make exceptions for me for the tests...so I couldn't go. That sucked. Basically, just check with you teachers (not just your guidance counselor) to make sure you can work out something with them while you still have...

    What does this letter mean?

This is information I recieved in an email: 550 candidates will recieve appointments from primary nominations, meaning they are the vacancy winners for their specific MOC. 300 candidates will recieve appointments from service-connected nominations. At the time, the letter stated that 350 would...
