Official Naval Academy Class of 2016 Appointment Thread

I received my LOA in October and got the call from Congressman Holt yesterday. That was the only condition to my LOA.

Got the call yesterday from Congressman Rush Holt that I got a nomination to both USNA and USMA

    Depth Perception for USMA

I don't know how your surgery will affect whether or not you need a waiver, but the depth perception should be no problem. I couldn't identify any of the shapes on the test however I am still found medically qualified. The only thing that I could foresee as an issue is the surgery, but it...

    Another Nomination Question

You can only apply to the MOC that is assigned to your district. You can't apply to every congressman. So, your best chance would be to apply to both senators and your own MOC.

    NJ Nominations

Yea I emailed my congressman's office a couple days ago and they replied that they will inform us in the first week January. This stinks cause originally they said late December/early January. I was hoping for December. Oh well, we'll hear eventually.

    How Competitive Am I?

No one can really tell you how competitive you are. It seems like you are on the right track, but no one can tell you definitively. Look at the class profile and see how you measure up. However I don't think the SAT/ACT are looked at to the same degree as if you are applying out of high...

    DOBMERB still missing

I didn't think that it shows up on the USNA CIS. I think that if it says on the DoDMERB website that you're qualified for USNA then you are good to go. I have been cleared and it still says "For information regarding your medical status..." I just assumed that it is going to stay like that.

    Waiting...how?

Honestly, I don't think anyone could tell you how to wait. Just know that a bunch of people are waiting with you. Personally, I am obsessed and my friends think I am crazy. But people who are also applying to a service academy know what you are going through. We will all find out one way or...

    BGO interview

I emailed my BGO in July and had my interview then. You should schedule your BGO interview and get it done as soon as possible. How far are you into completing your file? I ask this because I was under the assumption that after a certain amount of a candidate's file is completed the BGO is...

Official Naval Academy Class of 2016 Appointment Thread

That means that if you receive a nomination, you are eligible for an appointment. It doesn't mean that you will get one though. If you receive the principal nomination then you will get accepted automatically. If not, you will hear back in March/April most likely as to USNA's decision.

    Vision problem?

When you say "slight correction" is your vision 20/20 uncorrected? Either way to not get DQ'd on the eye exam you need eye sight that is correctable to 20/20 in each eye.

Girls: do they cut your hair on Induction Day?

What happens in the "growing out" period where it is past regulations for loose hair but not yet long enough to be put up in a bun? I assume you will get called out on it a little bit but is it a big deal? Otherwise I don't see how anyone would be able to grow it back out.

    NJ Nominations

Does anyone know when the NJ senators will be announcing their nominations? I skimmed through this forum and last year people didn't hear anything till like January 20th. I'm hoping this isn't the case this year.

    Math Question

Yes trig is important. However, taking pre-calculus and AP Calculus will give you a very good foundation in trig. Trig is incorporated in almost every math class given and by the time you are done with AP Calculus you will feel comfortable with it.

Status still incomplete after 2 weeks

Yea it was a big surprise after reading the normal time it took from people on this forum. Plus, it says 2-4 weeks on the DoDMETS website. I was anticipating needing a remedial, but apparently I was good to go. Definitely a relief to have this part over with.

    Math Question

Do they offer AP Statistics at your school? You can take that as your math senior year after taking AP Calc BC junior year. USNA does not consider it a heavy-duty math course and it should not be taken in lieu of calc, but if you have already taken AP Calc BC then they will not look down upon it.

Status still incomplete after 2 weeks

I completed my last exam on November 11th. I ended up being qualified on November 18th and the actual letter stating that I was qualified was post-marked on November 21st.

Status still incomplete after 2 weeks

I think I got very lucky. All of my stuff was on the DoDMETS page a couple days after each exam. Then they immediately sent it to DoDMERB. And DoDMERB only took maybe 2-3 days to qualify me. Maybe I got them on a slow week? It really is a case by case basis.
