    Intro

My DS turned down appointments to USMA and USNA to do AROTC at Princeton. It was the best decision that he ever made. It is a top notch detachment. There are a lot of great alums who support the program (not the least of which is GEN Milley who commissioned my son). The culture is great for...

    IVY wait list

IMO you are going to need to decide if you want to do AROTC (at Georgetown) or roll the dice at Harvard or Yale. Having someone else (the US ARMY) foot the bill for tuition will make little difference to Harvard or Yale with each endowments > the GDP of 100+ countries. Looking at the CDS from...

    IVY wait list

The advice given is great and certainly worth your DS's time, but he also should be realistic about waitlists at IVY's. Admission from the waitlist is rare. He can check the school CDS for historical numbers to get a feel for the odds. For example in the 2019-2020 admit year (the last...

    ROTC v USMA summer opportunities

After his MS1 year my DS studied Arabic at the Qasid Insitute in Jordan. After his MS2 year he went to Air Assault School at Fr. Benning. Those placements were competitive. After his MS3 year he did Advanced Camp at Ft. Knox. He squeezed civilian internships during the 2nd and 3rd summers.

    Questions concerning rotc

Google "Army ROTC Nursing Center of Excellence". Only a small number of programs in the US receive that designation from Cadet Command, but those that do often reserve a set number of spaces in the nursing program for AROTC students. It's a leg up in the selection process for nursing school.

    Ranking universities

That would be nearly impossible. Dartmouth ED decisions don't come out until mid-December and RD decisions are at the end of March. That would be late for a ROTC application.

    AROTC Component Change

My DS was able to make a component shift. It took a great deal of work and support from his PMS to make it happen. Here's his scenario. He had always planed to branch AD Infantry and as a DMG that was the direction he was going. During the summer before his senior year, he landed a dream...

    Results came out for AROTC

My DS was a 4-year AROTC cadet at Princeton having turned down appointments to USMA and USNA. He had a remarkable experience. At the time he was admitted, AROTC worked closely with admissions for their targeted candidates. My DS is convinced that was why he was admitted.

    Ivy League

My DS was in AROTC at Princeton. The Tiger Battalion has (at least it did when he was there) a close working relationship with the University. My DS was told that his name was on a list given to admissions. He had been deferred during SCEA and after his name was on the list, he was admitted...

    ABOLC for Nationl Guard Members

My DS was in the same boat for IBOLC and he had a friend at ABOLC at the same time. It isn't considered a PCS. They were both at Abrams. The upside is that you get frequent stay points so you can stay in a hotel for free for basically the rest of your life. The downside is it is essentially...

Trying to maximize my chances at West Point early

I know many on the forum will disagree, but if you select the right school, the answer is yes. My DS investigated numerous schools and found that the Culver Academies in Indiana send a disproportionate number of students to the three academies. They are well prepared academically and the...

AROTC what to bring to college

Here are things that my DS wishes that he had brought from home: (1) Socks for PT - "Socks must be plain with no logos and calf or ankle length. Ankle length socks must cover the entire ankle bone, and sock color (black or white) is at the discretion of the Soldier." My DS had to hunt for ankle...

Got a 4 year ARTOC Scholarship... Now What?

That doesn't make sense. University of Chicago ED is binding, meaning that you have signed a commitment to attend the school if admitted, withdraw applications to all other colleges and apply to no additional colleges. Georgetown's EA program specifically prohibits you from applying to any...

    Spouse at BOLC

My son is TDY at Benning for IBOLC. Housing is furnished at IHG Army Hotels Abrams Hall. He is never there. He is out overnight in the field for part of nearly every week and will have a multi-week stent in the field in the near future. When he is not in the field, days are very long. IBOLC is...

    Army Guard vs AD

The LTC at my DS's unit came back from a command briefing last year and told the unit that per higher, if trends continued, cadets would be forced AD to make mission in the near future. Apparently the improving economy, better job prospects and "war fatigue" are all contribution factors making a...

    ROTC process education needed.

The AROTC Tiger Battalion at Princeton consists of cadets from Princeton , TCNJ, Rowen and Rider. At least at Princeton there are no crosstown cadets in the unit. My DS knows the lone NROTC cadet who had to commute to Rutgers and it about killed him. He was allowed to do PT with the Princeton...

    AROTC component change

My DS found out today that his component transfer was approved by Cadet Command. It took about three weeks front to back ... Included securing LOA for desired Guard unit, approval by cadre, approval from Brigade, approval from Cadet Command.

    AROTC component change

My DS is in the process now. Had decided at the end of the summer to pursue a component change because of an amazing civilian job offer and a Guard unit that would make it a possibility. Cadre said to wait until after components were released. He received AD and was in the top 10% so guarenteed...

    NROTC+football+engineering

There was a 2015 AROTC cadet in my son's unit who played football (D1 Ivy League) and majored in engineering. He branched AD as a combat engineering which was his first choice.
