    Ed delay resources

When doing the number crunching also look at the Income Based Repayment plans. If your student loan debt exceeds your income you can repay based on income and family size not a straight 10 year repayment. If you borrow 100K the monthly payment is about $400 instead of $1150 for a family of one.

    Advices with loans?

If the loan is the federal Parent PLUS then the student is not legally required to repay those funds. Some parents take the loan thinking the student will assume repayment but as stated above the payments for the loans in the student name added to the Parent PLUS would still be equivalent to a...

    Advices with loans?

If I could have one wish today it would be that every parent would read this thread and start having this discussion when their children turn 13. This is the sort of diligence that should start before the the first college visit ever happens and hopefully long before the first college visit is...

    Advices with loans?

You are mixing apples and oranges with the loans. Only $27000 of the money she would need to borrow would qualify for the federal programs you allude to like Income Based Repayment. The rest of the money she would need to borrow would be private loans and they do not have the flexibility you are...

    Advices with loans?

So you are going to borrow $30,000 x 4 = $120,000 plus your federal loans of 5500+6500+7500+7500= $27000 for a total of $147,000 which does not include extra semesters or cost increases. This means monthly payments of about $1300/month once you graduate. This is a conversation you should have...

    Army ROTC + Sport

Anecdotal but DS played 4 years of hockey while in AROTC. The season began mid August and ended mid March. He had 3 different PMS's during that time and all of them encouraged his participation in hockey. He had similar waivers of PT times and sometimes had conflicts between FTX and games but...

    Commissioning 2015

Thanks for your wisdom over the years Jcleppe. Today was the day DS reported to Ft Knox to return at an unknown time. I realized he's left many times but always with a known return date. It's great that he's on the payroll! Especially since his final semester scholarship funds have still not...

    BOLC/First Duty Station

For those of you who have no previous military background and these processes are nothing but muddled (like me!) I wanted to let you know that if your DS/DD logs into look for BOLC assignment it's possible that at the bottom of the assignment, in very small print, the first duty assignment may...

    AROTC vs NROTC vs AFROTC

Back in the day, there was a bumpersticker that said, Honk if you passed PChem. Also back in the day, there was no such thing as a pre-med major. Maybe the world has changed.

    tax question

The 1098-T is probably an electronic document that can be accessed through the college's website - if you know where to look. And remember the 1098-T usually reflects the academic year not the calendar year, thus you must "do the math" to see if it reflects accurate information for the tax return.

    Opportunities Post High School

A Young Marine high school student who can participate in sports like soccer but knows he won't be able to pass the DODMERB exam is wondering what options exist to continue to be involved in a military community during college. (Besides the first two years of ROTC courses.)

    acceptable clothing

Doing some Christmas shopping AND planning for the future wondering why the Ranger list of prohibited clothing lists spandex type underwear like Under Armor. Does this mean all stretchy boxer briefs are prohibited?

    CULP pay info

Have come to Expect this DS has only had one fall semester out of three paid before the semester was over, so basically all costs were needed to be covered for fall and then the fall money could be used for spring. The first year the HR person did not believe the paperwork could even be...

Any rumors on Cadet BRANCHING timeframe?

Really Oh to be the mouse in the room; so many things in life that we will never have full knowledge about. There were so few aviation spots.....

Any rumors on Cadet BRANCHING timeframe?

Late to the Party but we are dancing!! ADSO for branch military intelligence and detail infantry. Although some of you can't understand how these two go together for my DS this is the perfect combination as he sees himself transitioning during his twenties.
