    Looking for a watch

There a lot of good ones, but I like the Luminox "Navy Seal" watches. They have a Swiss Quartz movement, are waterproof to way deeper than most people will need and are cool to boot. They are the same watches our Navy Seals wear. There are several styles and colors to choose from. I've worn...

Girls: do they cut your hair on Induction Day?

I recommend getting it cut before you go, but as a warning, girls tend to want to flirt with the envelope of the regulations on pre-I-Day hair cuts. If it touches your shoulders or collar, it's too long and they'll plop you down in the barbers chair and butcher it. It has to be at or above the...

What percentage of plebes come from NAPS

I don't think it's overstating at all. For example, last years plebe class in I-Day had 1229 plebes, 246 of which came from NAPS, which is right at 20% or 1 in 5. It changes slightly year to year. The plebe starting class size is usually around 1250, and there have been as many as 300...

What percentage of plebes come from NAPS

It's about 20-25% or 1 in 4 or 5 mids are Napsters. Some years, they have -300 Napsters, but this year's class will be closer to 250. Depending on the size of the NAPS classes coming out, up to a fourth of the entire brigade of midshipmen would have gone through NAPS.

    Visit to Annapolis - Suggestions?

They have periodic "Admissions Briefs" throughout the day.....perhaps 3 or 4. I took my daughter to visit the academy and we didn't learn of them until mid-way through our tour. Just call the admissions office to see when and if they are being offered. They're typically over in the admissions...

    First Class Detailer positions.

Does anybody know how the first class detailer positions are divvied up? How does one get a Plebe Summer Detailer position vs. a NAPS detailer position. Is it volunteer, competitive or an assigned duty? Also, how many Plebe Summer/NAPS detailer positions are there? What do you do if you do...

Does anyone know the I-Day dates for USNA Class of 2016?

Has anyone heard the dates for I-Day and Parent's weekend for the USNA Class of 2016? They were not yet posted on the Academy's website. Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide.

Can 2 kids from the same High School go to the Naval Academy the same year?

There were two from my daughter's HS Class. My daughter goes to a relatively small school in Oklahoma City with a graduating class of about 75. She got accepted to and is currently at NAPS and another from her class is a plebe right now. It can happen.

    Any NAPS Questions?

Does anybody know if Ripley Hall or Bancroft Hall has WiFi? It's been recommended by a few mids and M/C that if would be OK to bring your own laptop or IPad. Since the issued laptops and desktops have locked out certain websites, i.e. YouTube, I Tunes, etc, and cannot have webcams plugged into...

    National Merit Scholarship

Why would they? There wouldn't be any need since nearly all of the educational expense for any service academy is paid in full by the U.S. taxpayers along with a salary to boot. They would simply award some other deserving high achiever the national merit scholarship who doesn't have such a perk.

    2011 Plebe Herndon Climb

I this might sound crazy, but I'm actually a motocross guy from way back and was in the Navy as both medical officer and enlisted (Seabees). My daughter will be attending the USNA. I usually don't mix my motocross with my military, but I was shocked to see a few motocross type bikes that were...

    2011 Plebe Herndon Climb

Boy, that's great news from the Annapolis newspaper. Thanks for the post pmlutton. My daughter will be going to NAPS this next year and is excited to be able to participate in this tradition as a member of the Class of 2016. What an amazing end to the most challenging and memorable year of...

    2011 Plebe Herndon Climb

I know last year VADM Fowler nixed the greasing of Herndon climb for the first time in many years presumably to too many injuries. I personally think this was a mistake....(we can send our Midshipmen into battle, but can't let them climb a greased Herndon). Has anyone heard if VADM Miller will...

    NAPS

It is true, many recruited athletes do go to NAPS. However, the academy has long recognized that not all great potential naval officers had the advantages of being able to attend a good college preparatory school or even a decent public school. They have shown excellent potential due to...
