    Standardized Tests

Currently. West Point superscores - they only care about your highest scores in each area. They don’t mix SAT and ACT. So SAT 1, Math 650 and English 600. SAT 2, Math 500 and English 650. Then for West Point, your SAT score is Math 650 and English 650.

    Monken

There were some rumors, but didn’t make sense to me. Most big schools don’t run triple option. I doubt Coach Monkton will suddenly do something else (football wise) because he is at a big school. I believe Paul Johnson had an average record at best at Georgia Tech after leaving Navy. So for...

Appointment presentation at HS graduation ceremony

Make sure you check with your school as some of us are still under COVID related restrictions. Last year, schools in my area had nothing in person, but they asked FFRs to send in videos.

    Triple Qualified Acceptance Rate?

3Q could be misleading for individuals as it doesn’t account for individual competitiveness with their nomination category. A competitive Congressional district can have several 3Q candidates but only one appointment and other 3Q will have to compete in other nomination categories or in the...

    Is Interview Optional for USMA?

If a candidate is being considered for an appointment, an interview must be in his or her file before a decision is made. So if there is no interview on file, the admissions office will reach out a FFR to get an interview done. So if you are not contacted for an interview, your chance of an...

    Marketing vs. admissions supoort

Are other colleges different? I have been involved in WP admissions over 20 years. There are certain areas they could improve. At the same time, why should they change what they do if kids are still interested in West Point and qualities of appointments cadets are good as ever. The admissions...

    Is Interview Optional for USMA?

Interview for USMA is required for an appointment, otherwise optional. Interviews are also conducted at discretion of FFRs, so you could be interviewed without being considered for an appointmen.

    ERASE HISTORY

How come there is no call to change the name of the Democratic party? It supported slavery. It supported segregation.

    USMA Founders Day Dinner

Some societies do. At least one society is very good about coordinating with the Admissions Office and/or local FFR with appropriate knowledge to obtain information on candidates that accepted appointments, candidates that are offered appointments but not accepted, and candidates that are being...

YOUR THOUGHTS-RCVD EMAIL FROM RCO TODAY?

I don't think your DS is totally out, as the interview can done last minute (at least for my region we can even do phone interview) or he can contact his FFR, if he has one, to ask for an interview just in case. BUT, for your DS to get an offer, he needs luck. Many things could change from...

Best prep school for unsponsored applicants

My two cents, a good college, retaking SAT/ACT, good grades, and ROTC are better than any prep school. Prep schools have their strengths and weaknesses, so depends on your weakness Prep school alone might not increase your chances. Some prep schools advertise their success rate, but we don‘t...

    Foundation Scholarships

BobSanderz - might want to post an updated question on ROTC thread. I am assuming ECP as early commissioning program. As I understand it, ECP scholarship is different from ROTC scholarship. Some major differences are ECP is for two years at selected junior military college whereas ROTC is...

    Foundation Scholarships

AOG scholarship is used at any designated "prep" schools ROTC scholarship can be used at any college with ROTC program that you are accepted.

    Foundation Scholarships

I am not sure West Point references it as a Foundation Scholarship. Typically, the cost are supposed to be 1/3 AOG scholarship, 1/3 scholarship from the school, and 1/3 individual. I believe Valley Forge is more expensive, around 40K, vs Marion, around 22K. I am sure it's in writing, but my...

USMA now has it's own version of USNA's Bruce Fleming

It is statistically true that fully qualified candidates with nominations have about 50% chance of acceptance. But as A1Janitor pointed out that other colleges don't require medical or physical. On a side note, West Point won't allow non-competitive candidates to go beyond the initial stage...

USMA now has it's own version of USNA's Bruce Fleming

No, but the cost is a secondary matter. If the cost is a primary consideration, why not force promising young soldiers to attend OCS, or only fund ROTC program at state universities? Is a ROTC grad from Duke say three times better than in state NC state ROTC grad? The Congress can eliminate...

USMA now has it's own version of USNA's Bruce Fleming

I decided not to bother with the book, not because I disagree with certain points made by Professor Bakken, rather as a scholar he should publish a scholarly book, not a gossip. If I want gossip or opinions, I can just read this forum. Some of the forum members make better arguments than...

USMA lengthens service obligation to 6 yrs??

Many valid points, but useless discussion other than some candidates will read their appointment letter again or more carefully. Regardless, how much we pontificate, for this admission cycle those 6 year offers will stand. Who knows what will happen next year. Either you are all in or not...

Firstie Medically Separated & Class Ring Inquiry

it’s a meaningless victory, in my opinion. The ring itself has some physical value as it is made of gold and some collecto’s value as you see West Point rings on eBay for sale. But I believe a West Point ring’s true value is the wearer being a graduate. Personally, I wouldn’t wear my West...

Firstie Medically Separated & Class Ring Inquiry

As an old grad, Decision makers make decisions and you can’t fault them for doing their job - regardless if you agree or disagree. As for the ring, return it if they give you compensation for it otherwise sell it. I believe you might stated that you are not going to wear it. If so why do you...
