Wow. The history. Some goosebump moments.

And forming up of 4K troops for the King and Queen to receive the Royal Salute. Thatā€™s pretty neatā€¦.

What are your highlights? If any?

My homemade orange-almond scones at 5 AM, but with Irish butter and American bacon. We like seeing the horses. The Cleveland Bay coach horses are gorgeous. And Iā€™m fond of seeing Princess Anne in her naval uniform and That Cover.

GOSH we need an eyeroll reaction šŸ™„

I love the horses as well. One was a little ā€˜spicyā€™šŸ«£. I donā€™t know HOW they get them ALL to behave in all that activity! Itā€™s fascinating.

The gold carriage they rode in (pulled by 8 horses bc it weighs several tons), 7 layers of gold, from the 1700ā€™s and with original suspension (a bumpy ride for the Royals) was also pretty neat. Wonder the dollar value of that???

Next time you are in London, take the Royal Mews tour. You get to see the coaches from a few feet away on the other side of a velvet rope, and there is always a Cleveland Bay in the ā€œshow stall,ā€ with a groom ready to talk horses.

The naval bicorne, I donā€™t know why I get a kick out of it. Hard to nap in. U.S. Navy had them too, back in the day, and no, not my day. Just a little before. šŸ¤£

As a non-watcher, when you mentioned the hat, I assumed you meant the bucket cover that she has worn on other occasions.

A lot of taxpayer money spent. Reminds me of the pro sports teams' stadium issue in the US - let the billionaire royal family/team owners pay.
It's interesting that the other European monarchies skip coronations since they're not technically needed. The king became the king upon the queen's death.

If the US would replace the ladies tiara or beret weird thing with this. All ladies in mess dress would feel like John Paul Jones and yell battle cries all night!

She is an impressive lady. The story of her almost being abducted and her calm.

Oh yes, epic mess dress mental image. I can hear it tooā€¦ROFLMAO.

And up early this morning making the rounds where the marching units were mustered, then riding behind the Kingā€™s carriage with the household cavalry - in the rain, age 72. She was probably the most comfy in riding pants and boots. And that hat. I heard one of the TV talkingblathering heads note that it was an unusual fascinator type of hat, but was more focused on the fact the red plume blocked the view of Harry behind her in Westminster. Idiot.

One of my British friends always sends me this on the 4th of July:

I was unable to watch the coronation live, but I enjoy the excessive pageantry and over-the-top dress and will try to catch up later.

Worn the OLD way...as the RN "went Port to Starboard" or "athwartships" around 1795-ish "for fashion and standardization."

Of course, it could have been "returned" to "fore and aft" later I suppose.
(I've read too many stories in the Naval Chronicles)

Ah, now this answers something Iā€™ve wondered since my teen years, when I devoured nearly the entire Horacio Hornblower series. I never understood why some images from way back then showed the hat worn ā€œfull frontalā€ and others showed it in ā€œaerodynamic mode.ā€ šŸ¤”šŸ¤—šŸ˜‰
