šŸ‘‘ Coronation anyone??

Ah, now this answers something Iā€™ve wondered since my teen years, when I devoured nearly the entire Horacio Hornblower series. I never understood why some images from way back then showed the hat worn ā€œfull frontalā€ and others showed it in ā€œaerodynamic mode.ā€ šŸ¤”šŸ¤—šŸ˜‰
Napoleon liked athwartships. There was some fine military headgear in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

No coronation watching here/however I did watch that South Park episode in which the Prince and Princess of Canada go on their world wide privacy tour. Not a South Park fan but it was hilarious.
I laughed at that one too. My twin brother loves South Park. I can only take so much of it.

A cost estimated up to $125 million paid for mostly by the British taxpayer for some antiquated BS.

Our country spends a lot more than that on stuff many would view of the same or lesser value.

Out of curiosity I googled the cost of a Presidential Inauguration. $100m is the estimate. President Biden was estimated at $45M due to reduced size during COVID.

While I find that also unacceptable.. at least a Presidential Inauguration is for an active form of government and not an egregious display of vanity on the part of the "royal family."

Haha Lionel Richie and Katy Perry live from the celebrations on American Idol. And the King and Queen walked in to talk to them. Pretty funny and awesome.

I typically love the Brits and their pomp and circumstance. Iā€™ve lived there twice and visited more than I can count. I stood in the crowd for Will & Kateā€™s wedding, the Queenā€™s Diamond Jubilee, Margaret Thatcherā€™s funeral. I saw the pack of paparazzi outside of the hospital the day Prince George was born. Went to the Olympics, the memorials at St. Pauls and the Embassy following 9/11. My dadā€™s close friend through Navy days, a vice admiral of the Royal Navy recently left his post as Governor of Windsor Castle and tells the most fascinating stories about his time there and the family. My uncle has lived outside of London for 40+ years and was neighbors with Sarah Ferguson after her divorce. But this time I havenā€™t even had time to sit down and watch my DVRā€™d copy of the coronation coverage with all of our move chaos going on. Itā€™s hard to feel warm and fuzzy about Charles I guess. I keep hearing about Camillaā€™s smirk thoughā€¦.

I just canā€™t take Charles seriously. Tampax. Need I say more? I canā€™t believe anyone would say that-I mean if you are going to have fantasy Iā€™d think one would aim for a bit errr more. To be fair, he has raised a lot of money to help kids get scholarships when I suppose he could just go off and enjoy his billions in peace. Used to respect Harry a bit for his Invictus games until he opened his mouth on Oprah etc. He just seemed very entitled, spoiled and self absorbed. After coming through working in healthcare during COVID-It was so shattering it just was a big turn off to listen to. It was hard to see him as someone that cares about anyone except his wife and kids.

Wow. The history. Some goosebump moments.

And forming up of 4K troops for the King and Queen to receive the Royal Salute. Thatā€™s pretty neatā€¦.

What are your highlights? If any?

The UK has a lot to offer. Great nation. Great people. Great food....I mean pubs.

But the "royal" family? Monarchy? House of Lords? Inherited power, as opposed to power optained through merit or the ballot box? No thanks. I'll pass.

Price Harry may be a jerk, but with his Netflix deal & book deal he is at least earning his own money as opposed to living like a billionaire on someone else's taxes. The one member of the "royal" family who actually earned his military uniform & medals. King Charles has more medals on his uniform than Audie Murphy but didn't earn a one of them. Now he's an outcast. Gimme a break.

Britain's holidays all seem to be centered around their outdated monarchy. None celebrating independece, or victories in war (VE Day would be a good one, eh?) or other individuals. Sir Isaac Newton? William Shakespeare? William Wilburforce (ended slavery)? Alexander Fleming (discovered penicillin)?

Remembrace Day on November 11th (we call it Veterans Day here in the USA) is great. Paying tribute to the 900,000 (in a country of 40 million, at the time) who lost their lives in the Great War (World War One) is certainly righteous. Talk about sacrifice.

Wait a minute. Only Prince Harry earned medals? William and Charles both served as well just as the late Queen did during WWII.

I'm not a royal fan but they aren't really living off of taxes, they're living off of the wealth that they have accumulated/inherited for centuries.
