I have taken my second body fat percentage test with a result of 48%. I believe the test is not an accurate representation of my actual body fat. As a female, I have very wide hips and I think this is what has skewed the results so much. Normally, my BMI is 27, which is still too high for USAFA. Is there any chance I could get a waiver for this? I'm actively involved in athletics, work out four times a week, and passed my CFA. I'm worried that this test will deter me from an appointment. Any advice?

BMI and body fat% are 2 different things. You can’t compare those numbers directly against each other.

BMI takes into account only height and weight. A BMI of 27 puts you in the overweight range.

A body fat of 48% is obese. That means almost 1/2 of your body weight is made up of fat. Doesn’t sound right to me.

Are you sure you were measured right?

Measurements are accurate minus height (only off by an inch). However, my hips are very wide compared to the rest of my body. I am currently outside of the weight standards for my height which is the reason they asked for the test in the first place.

What sports are you involved in? I know DS failed the BMI initially, so they required a neck measurement. Then he was fine.

Also height (even an inch) does factor in greatly. Google the BMI charts to see.

Unfortunately, I received correspondence that I have been disqualified from consideration due to this and that my application is closed. Is there anything I can do, or is this actually the end?

Just remember, it is not actually the end, just keep applying if USAFA is truly where you want to go. Always try to improve and get better.
