Hi everyone,

I took my first attempt at a PFT this morning, and I'm curious as to how my scores stack up? My coach gave me the standard 2/2/2 (APFT), but we also took my score from the first minutes and mile. Scores are as follows for the 1/1/1:
1 Min Push-Ups: 25 / 1 Min Sit-Ups: 40 / 1 Mile Run: 8:38 (Not my best time. My record 1-mile is 8:07. Push-ups & Sit-Ups are record scores though!)

Here are my collective 2/2/2 scores:
2 Min Push-Ups: 35 / 2 Min Sit-Ups: 60 / 2 Mile Run: 18:09 (Also not my best time. My record 2-mile is 18:01. Push-ups and Sit-Ups for 2 min are record scores as well.)

So, based on these scores, I will be re-taking the test next Monday. I'm hoping to be at 42 Push-Ups in 2 / 78 Sit-Ups in 2 / 17:30 for 2. I guess my question is - Are my scores from this morning average, above average? I especially want to know this for the 1/1/1, because I cannot find requirements for the 1/1/1 anywhere. Any input is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Reference the APFT results (2/2/2 test), the good news is that you're passing. The results you stated give you a score of 227 out of 300. Your worst score was the run, you got 68 out of 100, still passing but far from maxing.

I don't have the Presidential Physical Fitness scoring matrix (the 1/1/1 test), but I doubt you scores have maxed that out. My suggestion is to figure out the scoring matrix, continue working hard to improve your scores, but don't submit them until either you : 1) have maxed; 2) no longer improve; 3) the deadline for submission is upon you!

Also: it's admirable you're working on the APFT, and you'll need to pass before you contract. Having said that, I would be very focused on the 1/1/1 test at this point, at least until you've submitted you PFA form. I can't imagine you're helping yourself score wise by taking the first minute of each event....from an aerobic standpoint, burning up precious energy doing the extra work! I think you'll find doing the 1/1/1 test you'll really improve your run, and maybe add a few situps.

Best of luck!

So I am thinking this is for an application? If this is for the the Army ROTC application, please do the 1/1/1 test separately.

First of all, if you push yourself for the 1 minute, you will do better in all three events. Imagine if you knew you were only running one mile how fast you could go?

Also, for the 1/1/1 it is a curl up, hands across chest, versus a sit-up in the AFPT.

There should be a form in your portal to use, honestly, unless you are asked for it, the 2/2/2 test is not your concern right now. And as far as what is good for a 1/1/1 test, there is not a chart that I know of, just do your best. Last year my daughter did 25 PU, 44 curl ups and a 7:01 mile and was told it was good in her interview. I would really work in going hard for one minute in each and see what you can accomplish.

Has something changed an a two minute test was asked for, let me know.

Check out the book by LTC Robert Kirkland, it has a scoring matrix for the 1/1/1 test.

Just to clarify, this IS for an arotc scholarship. My coach wanted me to do the 2/2/2 first just to see how I would do, but I'm going to do the 1/1/1 separately for sure. Thanks for all the input so far.

I completed the 1/1/1 PFT this afternoon and got 30 Push-ups in 1 minute, 37 Sit-Ups in 1 minute (less than last time, but its okay), and a 7:39 1 mile. Just wanted to update y'all on that! I am going to submit this score just to have one in my AROTC application so that I can go for an interview. So excited for this journey to continue!!

GREAT improvement - well done! Remember, make fitness a part of your life. Be that officer who likes to do PT, can run for miles, and enjoys the challenge of the PT Test!

Thank you, sir! Fitness is definitely a passion of mine; I am big into CrossFit and I spend a lot of my time at my CrossFit gym.
