My son received a nomination for his first choice school, USNA. If he doesn't get in could that nomination be used for USMMA as his second choice school?

First, congratulations! This is a good problem to have, and one that many on this board would be envious of. Second, no - each nomination is to a specific school. Understand that the nomination rules to USMMA are different and that any member of congress in your state can nominate your son. It would behoove your son to begin reaching out to literally any MOC that you can reach to see if their deadline or application has passed, and whether they would be open to nominating him. I received a NOM to USMMA in the April time frame (long ago), so there are options.

I would check with each and every MOC in your state, irrespective of if their deadline has passed, to see if their USMMA nomination slates are full. If not, what does it hurt to ask for consideration? The worst thing that could happen is they say “no”.

I would ensure to read up on USMMA noms as they are slightly different. Have your DS reach out to MOCs for nom opportunities as they are greater for USMMA

In addition, for qualified applicants without a nomination, USMMA can recommend appointment under the Transportation Secretary's authority (no more than 50 per year).

Thank you for your advice. My DS has assembled application packets and letters and sent to 6 other representatives in our state. Many of them state that they will not look at them if they are past the due date. Any hopes one of these would get a look/see?

I’d do specific research on each office - when was the deadline if it has already passed. Once you know for each office, if the deadline hasn’t passed, send in the required information. If the deadline has passed, pick up the phone, call the office, talk to the person in charge of the SA admissions process, inquire specifically about USMMA and if they turned in a full slate, and if not explain why you didn’t make the deadline, apologize for not making the deadline, and ask if they would please consider a submission at this point given the deadline to turn in the final slate is 1/31. High likelihood of “no” but at least you did everything in your power to get there. Just my two cents.
To get coffee, you’ll still need a couple of bucks and some change...😁

I would also suggest speaking with your local admissions liaison officer. In general, the KP community is quite small, and as a result, many of the local partners also serve on MOC boards. In some cases, the liaison officer may have a close working relationship with an office in a different MOC district within the state and could advocate with the MOC on your behalf - after a deadline and outside of your congressional district.
