1 vs 2 Nominations

Presidential nominations are automatic if a candidate qualifies.

My bad. I meant the unlimited noms were capped at 100 appointments for AF like they are for USNA.

Edit: I meant “ Because all people that apply for the Presidential don’t get in or know if they will get in?”

100 appointments can be charged, but every candidate who qualifies received a nomination.

LOL Presidential is a different ball game - and a well deserved advantage imo. But we are really talking about MOC and Senators.

The Academy encourages candidates to apply for as many noms as possible in order to give the Academy more choices for charging the appointment, not for the candidate’s advantage.
Stealth, this is from Congressman Harris' Academy FAQ Page:

"The Presidential nominations are for military service connected families, but it is also highly recommended to apply for a Presidential and Congressional nomination, as the President only awards approximately 100 nominations nation-wide. Candidates may be considered for both, and it is advantageous to seek the Congressional nomination in addition to the Presidential nomination when a candidate qualifies for a Presidential nomination" (emphasis added in original quote).

He is speaking to candidates here. Whatever the reason is for recommending applications to all sources (including flexibility for the academy), I respectfully believe candidates are advantaged by having multiple nominations.

Yes, it is from a congressman’s website, not the Academy.

The truth is we do not know what advantage multiple noms convey to a candidate unless we know all the details about each situation. It will vary for each candidate. At this point it seems that this thread is being continued for ego points only.

BUT this thread is about why 1 state operates different than another state? Why 1 Congressman operates different than another congressman in the Nom award ?

The short answer to this is that federal laws that relate to nominations allows members of Congress them to do so.

Well the would be great BUT I did not see that fine print in the application process!!!! All we received were letters.. The 1st interview my son had was a Nom, 2nd was a thanks but you already have a nom so we are giving someone else..
I wonder if these MOC actually talk to put a kid on a slate that will get him the Appointment ?
Heck-- I'll end this thread if 1 nom at the top slate gets a kid the Appointment but it appears a lesser qualified kid could get on a slate that has better chances.

On another note: We applied to the USAF exclusively with the 3 Congressman. Maybe we could of put USAF for 2 and USNA for 1.

(This time I used reply. Is it the same thing?)

@TimFlyer , I think your DS did the right thing, if USAFA was his first choice. Lots of threads of people with no nom or mismatched nom/SA. He has one nom to USAFA, and that's a great thing.
