100 Year Anniversary of Women in the Marine Corps

The best part of this anniversary was seeing a ton of female Marines on twitter and other outlets telling their male counterparts and the Corps itself to F off for years of sexual harassment, assault, and rancor they’ve endured simply for being women in the Marine Corps. Many lashed out at all the organizations that praised women in the USMC with a message of “you abandon us when we actually need you and show up for a PR moment.”

The USMC has an absolutely toxic subculture, marred by rampant misogyny and sexual assault. Not to mention the race issues. The Corps is due for a cleaning. Some good women in leadership roles will help.

Don't sugar-coat it. Say what you're thinking! ;)

My daughter is working towards that leadership role. She’s a junior on a Marine scholarship. She has a passion for the Marines, even after having witnessed some of the bad side. She aims to help change that, along with the stigma that women are somehow “less” than men.

Say some prayers for her that she succeeds please. And I’ll say some prayers for the dude that might try to harm her, for that probably will not end well for him ;)

Hi Scout! Good to see you again. Missed your candor, wit, sarcasm, and interesting take on things.

I’ve often thought over the last few months that if a #militarymetoo started, the stories that would come out, both from the past and present, would be, at a minimum, enlightening. I also feel there should be balance. I have many “metoo” stories, but many, many more of being well-led, well- mentored, and appreciated by those with whom I served.

Two words: Marines United

Three more words: Marines United 2

And that’s to say nothing of the deluge of misogyny on social media about the first woman to lead a marine infantry platoon.

On second thought, your quote is probably quite accurate...just maybe not in the way you intended.

Be well!

I am late to this one. It was great to see some of the ladies who paved the way in the USMC on social media and at a local gathering. Agree with Capt MJ on the stories. I never had an issue as a female at USNA or in the USMC, but the stories and investigations I have heard and seen... oh man. It makes me so sad and angry when I read the comments regarding the first female infantry officer. One of my buddies happens to be a senior leader very close to this situation... he doesn’t sugar coat anything... if he says she is as good as she gets, I take his word. To those still in uniform like @Hurricane12, thank you. To @EOD/SEALmom DD, best of luck as you seek your EGA and lead future Marines.

DD or her roommates never had a problem at USNA. If they did their Company would take care of it quickly as their Company was very tight. I pity the guy that tried to assault my DD or my State Trooper sister in law. The beat down would be awesome. Some Caucasian guy in China (probably Russian) tried to get my DD out the back door of a resteraunt on her way to the ladies room . One punch to the throat ended that. Go Marines and I hope he has a hoarse voice to this day.
