$160 Million for Westpoint project gone.

The chart in @USMCGrunt's post shows my state (as well as the president's), New York with the largest 2019 cuts out of the states. I'm guessing it's because NY is a solid Blue state. However, it looks like the renovations to fix USAFA's chapel went thru.

I never liked Trump. Working in financial services I remember the Trump Airlines bonds defaulting. Seems that happened to most of his lenders over the years. A lot of little old ladies lost everything. That said he is right about the border. The areas north and south of the border are completely unstable. The US government has required all of it's law enforcement agencies to send armed officers to assist border agents. A relative just returned from two months with border patrol. They came from Secret Service, HS and several other agencies. They were each paired up with a border patrol agent and responsible for at least 100 miles of border. There is all sorts of technology but you need people on the ground. My relative would find bodies often in the desert. The way it is structured is the Mexican cartels, mob or whatever you call them would provide a service to get people across the border for a small charge of thousands of dollars. These people came from all over the world. Once across in the middle of the desert these smugglers would basically demand more money and would shoot those who would not pay. The thugs are making millions and are getting more powerful each day. This money makes them powerful in their communities and they are taking control in Mexico and in areas of the United States. The cartels also send large groups across to draw in the border patrol to get drugs across at another location. It is similar to rise of the mob during prohibition. So the answer is to either open your borders to all or find a way of preventing them to cross. I guess the 2020 election may decide that. Then again probably not.

So what you're saying is, the "financial services" guys were selling airline bonds to little old ladies in the late 80's/early 90's, and they want to clear their consciences now by blaming it on Trump? Eastern was rotating down the drain when Trump overpaid for those routes. Just who do you consider a white knight? John Edwards who won medical malpractice settlements for his clients in the 80's?
Building a wall is a stupid idea and a waste of money, but there is a problem with people walking into the country. As long as there is an incentive to come here, people will come and neither party in Congress wants to fix it. I'm going order something on Amazon then play some Fortnite.

I like it!

Not only then, they were and still are pumping the junk.

The military needs to remain non-political. So, my personal decision is to keep quiet on this forum about my political views and - - like General Mattis - - my views on the current commander in chief. I will express my opinion, in private, at the polls in November 2020.

I like to inject some military perspectives on the wall. It’s been a while, but obstacles, there are exceptions but I won’t mention them as I am not taking a chance of what I mention will be taken out of context, are used to control movement. Another point is that obstacles need to be observed to be effective. So a wall could divert egress routes to other areas that easily monitored or controlled. A wall could make folks take longer egress routes. A wall could deter someone from starting the journey to the border. An obstacle is a tool that can assist in mission accomplishment.

Whatever folks think about politics, some of these projects weren't as trivial as you're making it sound. The cuts included some of the funds for the engineering center. Mahan is currently quietly slipping into the Hudson. It won't be end up in the water this year, but eventually, it needs to be addressed.

Does this thread bring any value at all to this forum, or are the same folks trotting out the same political garbage again?

Give it a rest.
