How are the squadrons(agressors, barbarians...) assigned for BCT

Are they preassigned, random assigned on I day or based on when you arrive or complete I day. From the chart I saw it looks like there is a link to the academic squadron for the 1st year (agressors flight a = squadron 1 b=2 c=3 d=4....barbarians a =5 d=8...) is this correct?

The squadrons and flights for BCT are pre-assigned to try and balance the group going into each squadron. Each flight in BCT will have a roughly balanced number of males, females, IC athletes, etc.

You are correct in your information on how each BCT Squadron correlates to the Academic Year Squadron.

I know the last part is correct, I just learned this for myself last night :shake: But other than that I'm not sure how they're assigned for basic. I heard something about a major formula that all your activites, classes, and athletic scores are placed into and then the computer basically evens out the squads but I'n not sure when that happens.
 
Balancing

As Stealth 81 said, it is a complex formula to ultimately provide balanced BCT squadrons that translate into rough balanced 4 degree classes in their designated squadrons -- another re-balance is accomplished following their 4 degree year to balance them into their permanent sqaudrons for their last 3 years (academics, athletes, diversity, geography, ......)
 
I'd like to add to the OP (original poster) that NO question is a dumb question. We were all in your shoes at one time and had the same or dumber (is that a word???) questions. I also highly recommend spending the money to buy an AOG membership so you can see pictures and videos of your basic this summer on Web Guy's site. It is well worth the money and kept me sane last summer while my son was in BCT. I looked every night for pictures and a glimpse of his life during those first months away from home. Best wishes to you and your new basic!

thanks but it was dumb in that it really didn't matter how they were picked they were going to get assigned somewho - just to answer my curiosity. I did sign up for AOG/webguy - they already have started posting schedules. The North Texas Parent club website is also filled with info - where I saw the chart for the squadrons and of course this board.
 
Texasrocks, you will really appreciate the pictures, updates, etc. from Web Guy. He has amazing access to the basics all summer. Last year he posted the daily bct schedules a day ahead of time but was asked not to do that any more (not sure why). Now he posts the daily schedule after the fact. It still gives us a great idea what the basics are going through. My father (retired AF) was annoyed all of last summer because we had such access to our son's bct experience. According to him it was too much access because "back in the day" there was literally NO contact with basics and families just had to wait until the end to learn anything about the experience IF the basic cadet chose to talk about it. We are fortunate to have Web Guy's insights! Where in Texas are you located? We are in Austin.
